Activation Code Not Long Enough

I've gotten a digital download card for Red Dead Redemption 2, and I've got the receipt from the store where it was purchased, but the activation code isn't as long as the example code on the "redeem your code" screen. The code won't be accepted on either
my Xbox One or online. I have no idea what to do about this?

Microsoft codes are 25 characters (don't count the dashes) in 5 groups of 5. If your receipt doesn't include a 5x5 code then maybe you bought the wrong version (eg PlayStation). Your only recourse would appear to be to take the card and receipt back to
Walmart and ask for a refund or exchange for a proper Xbox code.

Might sound crazy but how many digits is the code? I know that another well known console has significantly shorter codes (12 digits in my locale) is it possible that there's a mixup with the code being issued for the wrong console?

Yes. The activation code is on the receipt. The Walmart website says that if you bought an online redemption code in store it will be on the receipt. The code on the receipt isn't long enough, and Walmart doesn't have another one. It is the
only code available. It does not work. I have called the store, and that is the code they have given me, both on the original receipt, when I called, and a reprinted receipt.
