Activating a child/parent Xbox live account

Hello

I am a UK citizen. My son (11 years old) has an Xbox live account, of which I am the parent. Since mid-December he has had trouble logging in to Live to play games with his friends. This is because the service keeps asking me to verify his account.

To do this I have to do the following:

log in to live under his account, at live.xbox.com (not on the console, on the internet). This then asks for the parent to sign in. When I sign in using my parental account, I am then prompted to confirm that it is okay for him to use live. Of course I say
yes.

The next bit is where the trouble starts. To confirm I am an adult, live wants to take $0.50 from my credit card. However, to do this I have to provide a US address. As I am a UK citizen I cannot go any further. Meaning I am paying for a subscription my
son can no longer use.

I am hoping this will reach someone at Microsoft rather than a forum member, as it seems to me the service on the web needs fixing to work with people who live outside the US.

Hopefully someone can help. This is incredibly frustrating.

Gamertag missing

To make the story short:

- a did a mistake removing from family the account of my child

- I added back the account and changed email to a new one

- both accounts (child and parent) see each other as family members

Problems:

- parent privacy & security settings : cannot see my child's gamertag

- child - privacy & security settings : I get an error

- child - change gamertag: error too

- parent can log in to xbox live

- child cannot log in xbox live: error says parent account is not valid

Help to solve this mess is needed!!!

Is your account a child of another Microsoft account? Parent accounts can block certain Xbox Live functionalities.

If you have a family plan you can not add xbox live time directly to the child account, it must be added to the parent account to be activated on the plan.

Parent and child accounts on Xbox are designed to help parents manage their children’s gaming activities. A parent account is the primary account that can create and manage child accounts. Child accounts are created for children under the age of 18 and are linked to the parent account. The parent account can set up parental controls, such as screen time limits, content restrictions, and spending limits, for each child account.

You cannot change your account to be a child account. You will have to create a new account for your child.

To create a child account, the parent account must first create a family group. The family group can have up to six members, including the parent account. Once the family group is created, the parent account can add a child account to the group. The child account will be linked to the parent account and will have access to the parent account’s Xbox Live Gold subscription and other benefits.

Only "Child Accounts and Teen Accounts" accesses can be altered by the "Parental Account." If the account your child uses was set up as an "adult account" the only way to block access is to monitor your child's activity yourself.

You will need to sign in to that parental account and confirm usage rights in that case since there is a parental account attached to your child account of 16 years of age. When trying to do age restricted activities on Xbox Live, you will need the parental

Child accounts cannot download M or RP content that is free as that is considered advertising. However, child accounts CAN purchase M and RP content if your parental settings allow it. The parental account attached to your child account can manage these
settings.
