Activated 14 day Gold trial. Didn't realize I couldn't get games with Gold.

Hey guys, I meant to sign up for Xbox Live Gold on my new Xbox One, even bought a 1 year subscription to use. But when I opened the Xbox there was a 14 day Gold trial. So I figured sure I'll use that then switch to my year when it's used up. Unfortunately
it appears that I can't use my trial to get games with Gold. And then I found this:

"What if I'm on a 14-day prepaid code trial and I upgrade to Xbox Live Gold during the trial period to take advantage of a free game offer? Will I get the game?

If you upgrade to Xbox Live Gold during your non-renewing trial period, your Xbox Live Gold membership won't start until the end of your free trial. You won't be eligible to download a currently offered free game until your trial period ends and your paid
membership begins."

So it appears I can't just add my Gold subscription on and then get the games that expire tonight. Unless I'm understanding this wrong. Or is there a way for me to remove the trial period and just put my paid subscription on? Please help, I really wanted
a couple of the games that expire today.

Xbox Live Gold trial cancellation

I recently redeemed a 14-day trial code, thinking that I could get the game with gold. But I quickly realized that I couldn't download the free game with gold with my trial. So is there any way I can cancel my trial and get a new 14-day trial code to recompensate
for it?

Update: I activated my 14 day trial for live gold and it DID gave the the discount for deals with gold. HURRAY

 

Talked to chat rep, had trial removed, added 1 year subscription. Was able to download 2 free xbox one games. Can't figure out how to download the xbox 360 ones though..

 

In order to purchase the 360 games, you'll either need to purchase them on a 360 console or through xbox.com (you will need a payment method on file).

 

Problem is, when I'm on Xbox.com even though my subscription shows up under my profile, when I try going to the free gold games, it says I need a Gold membership. I wonder if it has something to do with my membership being prepaid?

 

Your account does not show as a gold member. Are you sure that you're signed in with the same account where you redeemed the code?

 

If I click on subscriptions on Xbox.com while logged in, it shows "Prepaid 12M Xbox LIVE Gold". But when I go to xbox.com/gameswithgold and try clicking on one of the games, it just has the option to join now to claim.

Hmm I found a work around. Not ideal, but was able to get them downloaded. I had to manually find the games out of the Xbox 360 games list. Then I had to add a credit card to my account, even though the games are free. Then I was able to download them. Bit
of a pain, but it works. Still says I need to add a live Gold membership when i'm on the xbox.com/gameswithgold page, but I got the games.

Same story. I hooked up the 14 day trial, then the same day I added the "Prepaid 12M XBox LIVE Gold". It took my gold tile nearly 24 hours to show up, but when it finally did, I had free XOne games show up, but not the X360 free games.

I followed your advice. I found the free X360 game (DiRT SHOWDOWN) on the XBox store website. Right there in the description it listed it as Free for me because I was logged in with my Gold member userid. I went through the purchase steps (which indicated
again on final checkout that the price was Free). The website gave me this message:

Thanks for buying DiRT Showdown!

Your game will appear in My Games on your Xbox 360 console when the download is complete.

But I don't have an Xbox 360 console, so I wasn't sure it would work, but it did. Under My Games & apps it was right there for me to install.

I'm hoping that after the 14 free day period expires my gold membership will start to work normally.

I've found this same type of question several times in the forums. The responses are all that the poster is only showing silver in the forum and that must be the problem. I think the real problem is that the Gold purchase is not overwriting the free silver
membership. This post, or something like it should probably become part of the standard answer to the 14 day trial stacked with paid membership questions.
