Account has gold but console says i need to purchase it

If your brother is able to sign in and use Gold features on one console, but not the other, that could indicate that his console was set as the
Home console for an account to share that account's Gold membership on that console. If you try signing into your brother's console with your account to test, are you able to use Gold features from that console?

The would only be able to share everything on one console. The account that has purchased the games would set a console as their Home console. Both accounts would have access to the games/gold on that console. The account that made the purchases can sign
into any console and access the content because it was purchased on their account. If the other account wants to use the games or gold on any other console, they would need to purchase it on their account.

There is no free membership. You'll need to purchase a Gold subscription or, if your console has them available (3 per console), make a new account and receive a free month of Gold for the new account.

Gold can only be shared on 1 console at a time. In order to use gold on 3 consoles you would need gold on at least 1 other account.

Anything you purchase on your account is tied to your account. So once your kid signs into a new console he can redownload GTA or anything else he has purchased with his account.

Not entirely. If one person has gold on their account and sets a console as their Home console, all other profiles on that console will have access to gold. Gold is not shared through family settings. So you would either need to purchase gold through your
account or the person who had the old console set as their Home would need to set your new console as their Home.
