Accidently made my account a child account. Easy fix!

I got the shock of my life when I tried changing the date of birth on my account and accidentally set it to 2010. This meant that my account would become a child's account and I would lose access to it without the consent of a guardian account to sign in. Naturally, I do not have a guardian account connected to mine because I am an adult. This was frustrating because you need a guardian account to get in, but you cannot add a guardian unless you are signed in.

There were no solutions to this problem online, so I am posting this to show what steps I took to fix the problem. I came across a forum on this site from someone who lost access to their Xbox account for the same reason, so I hope they eventually find this post. You do not have to lose all your purchases because of this glitch in the site! Just follow these steps, and your account will go back to normal.

The first thing you encounter when you try to login to a child account is this request for a parent or guardian's approval.





When you click the option that says "I'm a parent or guardian" it leads you to this page asking for a login from a second account. The problem is that if your child account does not have a guardian account connected, it will just lead you back to the page in the first image.





The way to fix this is to click the link that says "learn more about parent/guardian consent"





When you click this, it will lead to this page. All you will need to do is click "update account info"





Under this link you will find the option to change your date of birth. Change it to the proper year, type your name beneath, and the update bar should appear. This will give you instant access to your account.
