Accidental Gamertag Selection

You can earn more points in a month, than you need for a Gt change (without any purchases)

Of course you can also purchase games, add-ons or Game Pass Ultimate subs with those points or the credits you get for the points.

Well they did that because before they USED to let you choose a new gamertag for free when the enforcement team forced changed it but too many people abused it and would just change their name to something just as bad or worse. So more or less a case of the few ruining it for the many.

So I wanted to change my old gamertag and went to do so for free, but I didn't see (guess I'm blind) that it would add 4 numbers to the end of it, because from what I remembered it would tell you if someone took that name already. I changed it for free and now my name has 4 ugly numbers on the end of it (which btw, defeats the entire purpose of the whole "system" they're doing here since when someone got the "name in use message" before this update, they would add random numbers THEMSELF) and I can't change it because it wants $10.
Since this was entirely an accident, and I wish to change it immediately after the fact, is there really no way for me to go about this? I tried contacting a support agent and they said "There's nothing we can do", which is absolutely ridiculous, since they absolutely CAN change gamertags themselves (they do it for inappropriate names). I'm at a loss here and I really shouldn't have to pay $10 to change it immediately after.

To add, support actually CANT change your name for you for free even for inappropriate names.

That's the enforcement team who does that and they have nothing to do with support. They are a completely separate entity.

Even if the enforcement team forced changed your name they would give you a completely random name that you wouldnt get to choose.

From there you would have to pay the $10 to change it to something else you wanted so youd then be in the exact same boat at that point.

Unfortunately, paying to change the tag is the only thing you can do if you want it to be different.
