AC4 saved game disappeared and replaced -- help please!

Hi All - This same issue just happened to me this afternoon. Both my son and I were playing Assassins Creed Black flag and at some point switched between users and now my game save has been overwritten with my sons data with no warning! My 39% progress and
20+ hours of playing is now back to 18%!!!!

This is incredibly frustrating as there is no way as far as I can see that you can back up game saves or even move or copy them as you could with the xbox 360. I have seen other forums complaining of a similar issue with the PC version and there seems to
be a fix for that. But as there is no way to manage your own data manually on xbox one how can this be prevented?

Until either Microsoft or UPlay can explain how this can be fixed there is no point in playing this game any further with the risk that all your hours of data can be wiped! This is such a serious issue I can't believe that something has been done sooner.

Does anyone know if this is being fixed by either Microsoft or uplay?

This is an issue we are currently aware of when there is 2 save games and 2 accounts on the Xbox One and the facial recognition sign in is enabled on the Kinect.

We have reported this issue but at this time we dont know if this is caused on Microsofts end or not unfortunately. You can try disabling the face recognition to see if it fixes the issue, you may also want to report this to Mircosoft to see if it can help
speed up a fix for this issue.

Another soloution you can try is factory resetting the Xbox One and not enabling the face recognition again as your save datas are also stored on Microsofts cloud service so you wouldnt lose these, but would have to reinstall game data again.

 

To add to this...

The same has just happened to me. I am the sole user of my console and there are no other accounts... the last time I tried to load AC4, it stuttered, froze.. and then when it finally loaded i was horrified to see my game progress at 0%.

I had been playing for 72 hours!!!! I was about 80% complete.... I was really enjoying this game.

I contacted Ubisoft who didn't want to know (blaming microsoft for the glitch).... I contacted Mircrosoft who are looking into it for me but I'm not holing out much hope.

Im pretty devastated on this really. We have no control over our save games... and have to rely on this 'cloud' process to store them. When something goes wrong we have had no ability to view, or backup these game saves ourselves.... and are 100% reliant
on Microsoft's infrastructure.

I have been told that my cloud saves cannot be restored from the previous day. I find this hard to accept that there is no backup here for our data.

This 'glitch' is a real showstopper for me. Taking AC4 as an example... it costs £50 to buy the game, and then you invest hours and hours progressing through it..... but that 'progress' is nothing more than a file that seems to be so volatile in the current
Xbox one infrastructure.... and lost in the blink of an eye.

If I cannot get my save game restored by Microsoft, I will certainly not start the game from scratch again and sadly Ill never have the satisfaction of completing it. Also, if this glitch is not recognised and fixed then I don't know how I can invest in
any other games either knowing that my progress can be lost so easily.

.. as I type, Microsoft have confirmed they cannot access past saves... so thats it.... :-(

I agree with everything you say here, same happened to me. I found out from Ubisoft today that Microsoft are releasing a system update possibly tomorrow that will allow you to manage system storage. Hopefully that will mean being able to copy and back up
your save files. Just having one save file in the cloud that is constantly being overwritten throughout the game, that you cannot backup, is utterly ridiculous.

 

There are may people who say 'if this xxx function doesn't get fixed I'm swapping to a PS4'....

I used to disagree with this sentiment. Im an Xbox man, not a PS4 man.... however this experience is the first time I have had cause to wonder whether the PS4 would be a viable alternative.

Sorry, Microsoft, but this is FUNDAMENTAL - you CANNOT have a system that manages to lose game saves - especially where we have NO ability to manage them or back them up ourselves.

Microsoft tell me they have no idea how this happened - but the fact that is CAN, and DOES happen - even if its just with AC4, means that I will think very carefully before embarking on a long haul game like AC4 again.

I await the update (which should have been out 2 days ago......) and will see what stability improvements this brings.

Not giving up on you yet, Xbox.... but this is one hell of a blow.

I will be so happy if this is truely part of the update and not just the ability to see storage and delete storage (ive not seen the word back up anywhere yet)

 

I just wanted to bump this topic, mostly to keep it as a warning to all the other AC4 players out there.

Clearly Microsoft or Ubisoft don't have any intention of fixing this, and those of us that already lost dozens of hours 'hard work' on the game are left hanging.

Beware.... your hard earned save game progress can disappear.

 

Sorry I did not reply to Misses Jout earlier, I had given up hope on this ever being fixed. The last time we saw brother's, who you can PM me for his gamertag, gamesave he was playing AC4. I walked into the room and sat down and watched as he played. When
he was done playing he hit the guide button to return to the dashboard at this point he signed out. Because my gamer tag at the time used face recognition the xbox switched over to me. I know this because we use different dashboard colors. I then resumed AC4
from one of the tiles and the game returned to the main menu. I then loaded my game just fine. Days later the situation was reversed. I was playing when he came into the room. I decided to let him play and signed out and he signed in. His profile did not use
face recognition. The dashboard changed to his profile and he resumed AC4 from a tile. The game returned to the main menu and when he went to select what game to load his game save had been replaced with my game save.

Ourkman, because any attempts for him to play the 'copied' game save were being reset any time I played my game save there was a serious concern that the data had been corrupted for both profiles, at the very lest there was an ongoing interaction and I wanted
assurances that deleting the 'copied' game save would not result in the loss of my game save as well. I never got any such assurance but we did delete the 'copied' save with no ill effects to my own.

Ubisoft claims the problem is not with their game, but with the console itself. It would be nice if one of these companies accepted responsibility and compensated us for this unreasonable loss.

I just ran into the same problem this morning. My brothers used my profile to play splitscreen Minecraft, but when they switched to AC4 they didn't log out any profiles. So, when I logged in when my brother was done, my save game was replaced with his.

I checked the system storage too...mine's gone. Well, it's replaced by a copy of his. So everything I've done is gone.

How was I supposed to know my hours of play would disappear because of some technicality in Xbox 360 console profiles?

Unfortunately this is not unique to AC4. Need for Speed Rivals has a different but similar problem in that it keeps losing your progress in the game. You can level up and get new cars, etc, and then come back the next day and you're back to where you were
before. Also look at all the problems people are having with Lego Marvel Superheroes when playing co-op. Thankfully I haven't lost my AC4 progress yet, but I have in NFS, and I'm the only profile who plays either of these games.

The whole profile, save, cloud storage, three OS architecture of this Xbox One is seriously flawed or Microsoft really didn't give developers enough time or information on how to correctly use it. And it seems each blames each other and we consumers get
no resolution.

 

So, my previous post mentioned that the advice I got was to turn the console all the way off while switching profiles. Found a better way to do it, but haven't tested it yet.

I did notice after the system update (this may have been available before or not, I'm not certain) that if you go to the dashboard, then highlight the currently running app, you can press the Menu button (the button to the right of the white Xbox button)
and you will be given some options I don't remember being there before. One of those options is "Manage (something)" and "Quit". If you select "Quit" then you can actually kill the application. Then it will be safe to swap profiles, I think, without turning
off the console. That allows people who like having their Xbox in fast-on mode a way to safely swap profiles. As a side note, the "manage" option gave some information on being able to delete either your local storage for a game, your cloud storage or both.

Still, until Microsoft and its developers come up with a real solution, my advice is that everyone with a console with multiple profiles disables Kinect sign-in, as this may happen without you having the opportunity to kill the app.

 

I have just lost all my progress too. Not happy and lost interest and £50 buying this crap game! I have learnt my lesson well and will not purchase online from XB1 again.
