  1. About video capture and content creation. GameDVR errors and possibilities.

    • Captures App. When uploading a file to OneDrive, it directly tells you "Upload complete" as the title, even though it clearly indicates that it's uploading in the top right corner.
    • Menu Guide. If you're broadcasting, it lets you tap record, tells you it's recording, but it's not actually doing so. Erroneous notification.
    • Menu Guide. If you tap Live Streaming, it gives you an error that would be easily diagnosed and the correct text added.
    • Videos on an external hard drive follow the format GAME-YYYY-MM-DD-HH-MM-SS when uploaded to OneDrive (and I'm paying for this feature for several TB). They are uploaded as GAME-YYYY-MM-DD_HH_MM_SS with a different delayed timestamp, which makes categorization difficult. Furthermore, there's still no auto-repeat recording feature for long gameplay sessions, nor is there a visible recording time indicator, as is the case, for example, when streaming on Twitch.
    • I've also had it not let me record when Xbox told me I had more than 50GB free, and when I connected the hard drive to a PC, it told me I only had 50MB free... and that's why the recording failed.
    • SSD hard drive used exclusively for gameplay recording.
    • I therefore believe a revision is needed (without breaking the existing system and leaving us without proper recording) that allows:
    • Same file with the same timestamp and format both on the hard drive and when uploading to the cloud (which is a service we're paying for).
    • Display of recording time while recording (a simple recording symbol with the time, or even flashing or turning bright red when the maximum recording time is approaching). Twitch has this, so overlapping during recording/streaming doesn't seem to be an issue.
    • When a 1-hour recording ends, it should automatically start recording another 1-hour clip. Although the optimal option for the user would be to allow 4 hours of continuous recording (requiring 50GB free if we activate that option, if desired).
    • Before starting a recording, it should directly warn us if there's little storage space for another hour (basically, 11GB free).
    • If feasible, it should allow recording while broadcasting.
    • There could be an option to "record automatically when a game starts," or even configure it to prompt when starting a game; this is possible on PC.

Xbox One S - Recording Game Clip To External Hard Drive, No Mic Audio Recorded

    Hi there,

Thanks for your post! Natively, the GameDVR function only captures video and audio from the game being recorded. In order to get voice audio for your gameplay, you may want to consider an external audio capture device or a capture card that supports capturing
    audio of these together.

    I hope this information helps.

    Backup gaming clips

    Hello Kursaalflyer,

Thank you for your quick response.

It appears that the capture location for your external drive is saved to GameDVR folder and XboxCapture copies folder. When copying multiple copies it goes directly to Xbox Capture Copies folder while captures clip is directly saved to GameDVR folder.

The GameDVR folder in external storage is a folder that contains the game clips and screenshots that you have recorded using the Xbox Game DVR feature on your console. The Game DVR feature allows you to capture your gameplay moments and share them with your friends or on social media. After recording clips, your external drive can now be plugged into a PC, where the traditional video files can be extracted. This essentially turns your console into a simple capture card, allowing recordings to be locally transferred for use in PC-based editing software. All files created by Game DVR can be found under the "Game DVR" folder automatically created on your drive.

The Xbox capture copies folder in external drive is a folder that contains the copies of the game clips and screenshots that you have recorded using the Xbox Game DVR feature on your console and then transferred to your external drive. The Xbox Game DVR feature allows you to capture your gameplay moments and share them with your friends or on social media. By transferring your game captures to an external drive, you can save space on your internal drive, backup your captures, and access them on other devices.

You can edit both the files saved on the GameDVR folder and the Xbox capture copies folder using PC editing tools. The difference is that the files on the GameDVR folder are the ones that you have recorded directly to your external drive by setting it as your capture location, while the files on the Xbox capture copies folder are the ones that you have copied or moved from your internal drive to your external drive. Both folders contain the same type of files, which are MP4 video files for game clips and PNG image files for screenshots.

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.
