    Where I live (Quite a rural location) I only have a 5MB internet connection and this is flaky at the best of times. My problem is this. When I pre-order games (I just pre ordered mass effect andromeda) the connection is so slow that I never get to play the
    game on release day as it can take a couple of days for the game to download. Whilst not a total disaster it does spoil that feeling of experiencing something for the first time with the rest of the xbox community which I find a little disappointing.

    Anyway - there is nothing I can do about this until the Broadband Infrastructure is updated in our area which seeing as it is not on the list of areas to be done yet could be a long long way off.

    What I was wondering is this. Would there be a way I could take my external HDD from the console to a place where the Broadband is better like my work place or a library or a friends house and using a PC I could then log onto my Microsoft account and download
    the update direct to the drive?

    Sure I could take my entire Xbox with me but that would be a lot of effort. If I could just take the drive then it would be that much simpler.

    Bought a game, but havent gotten it.

    Do you have enough memory left on the device you are trying to download the game to? I downloaded XCOM from GoD and it wouldn't show anywhere (on the HDD), I later found out my available HDD disc space wasn't enough. If this is the case just delete certain
    unwanted items from your selected Device and try the download again from Download History.

    No it means you can download your entire game library from anywhere, there are several things about how it installs to the HDD because thats needed for the fast load times.

    Hi there,

    I'm afraid that the game and or update needs to be downloaded via the Xbox console, but if a friend also has the game you can copy the full game to your external storage device and take it home, where you should be able to use it since you have the license
    on your account (assuming it was a digital pre order) or on the disc (if it's a disc based game)

    Yep but my problem is that if I don't sit there for the whole 19hrs the network drops out and the whole thing grinds to a halt. Never mind it was only a thought. One other thing I don't get it that on pre-order you download the game but it says "you can't
    play yet" but then when the launch date comes it seems to download the whole game again? Is that because of last minute patches or something?? If this didn't happen then I could download the game in advance and play it when it launches.

    Well that stinks. The instant on setting doesn't work? It downloads the game on the off hours when you're sleeping. A great feature.

    With my experience with pre-ordered downloaded games is that it downloads 99% of the game and leaves the last few bits until 12:00 AM launch day and then any day 1 patches.
