I get this error after trying to install the latest update. The update failed when I tried downloading via the xbox so I put it on a flash drive and that worked and it installed fine.

Then evertyime I try to download my profile I get the error 'a system update is required to sign xbox live but the update is currently unavailable'

I don't think I ever joined the preview program either, same issues as everyone else

I had an online chat with a tech last night and they said 24 hours ... Which has since passed. Gave me an impression they are receiving a lot of tickets about this

 

I have the same issue and support is of no help. I am also part of the preview program. I'm now left with an Xbox with no access to XBL. Apparently there is a preview forum, but the support personnel provided a bunk link. And, I never could locate it through
forums.xbox.com. *Sigh*

 

Try again mine just finally pulled up

 

I have cleared the cache, reset my router and modem, applied the update manually, and followed about every piece of advise I could find. I am still getting the same message everytime I sign into my 360. my one is working fine.

Yes, same here. Preview Program. Did all the tricks and nothing will resolve the issue. *sigh* No Error code other than: 'Update Failed.' - A system update is required to sign in to Xbox LIVE, but the update is currently unavailable.

-Powered Down, unplugged, re-powered

-Cleared System cache and restarted

-Cleared 2.5 GB space

-Found and deleted all/any downloads or titles in my HD with the yellow ! (Just one)

-Deleted Everything but the 'optional media update' under 'System Items' and re-forced the update

-Manually pushed the update

-Gave up and came here

-Learned we all are stuck in a botched Xbox Live Update black hole

-Realized that I really like nicely outlined lists

-Went to watch a movie to de-stress after the annoyance - At least my Apple TV works

 

Well, Im not only without XBL access, I just can't access my account at all, meaning no gaming for me, not even offline.

 

Ok, went on twitter and contacted the guys at @XboxSupport, they answered me really fast as usual, don't even know why I came here first. In my case, all I had to do was a power cycle, it's working now, you should try it, hope it helps you.

Note: Power cycling is just turning off your xbox, modem/router and then on again, after 20 seconds or so, just in case someone didn't know.
