hey all, Hope everyones day is going ok.

A quick question to the other techys out there, Its something i have never come across.

Well in the short (no pun intended) of it I am getting a shock from any cable connected to my tv. And anything thats lugged into the tv, So say i plug a hdmi cable into my tv and stick the other end of my arm it shocks me (like a joke lighter shock), And
if i then plug that into my xbox and then plug say a usb cable ito the xox then stick the other end of the cable onto my arm it still shocks me, This is obviousley suggesting the current is going through any item i plug into the tv and could potentionally
    cause damage.

It has only started since i wall mounted my tv

The power supply has 2 surge protectors and is on its own spurred loop.

It doesnt cause any noticable problems but i just wanted to know if it is dangerous and a way to stop it.

Thanks for all your future help.

A question to the other techys out there.

First thing I would do is get one of those little outlet tester plugs and see if the outlet(s) you're using are wired correctly. It could be that the ground is wired wrong or not connected. If it is wired correctly work your way back and make sure everything
    is grounded out.

I wired it myself and its fine all the way through, The tv isnt earthed because it only has 2 core wire, I was going to earth the tv bracket but i didnt know if it would cause any more problems.

Hmm, I don't know then. It definitely sounds like a grounding issue. Maybe you could ground the TV to something else in your AV rack that has a proper ground.

  7. When you say the two surge protectors does that mean you have a surge protector plugged into a surge protector. That can cause some different problems. Also do you have coaxial cable connected to the TV for cable. That can act as a low level ground if the
TV doesn't have an actual ground.

If you have an earth connection at your outlet you can ground your TV mount since the tapped holes for a VESA mount should be connected to a common ground inside the TV after the DC inverter for two pole return.

  8. A question to the other techys out there.

When using surge protectors please read the information guide that comes with the hardware. In most probable all cases the surge protector will protect the hardware not the user.

Problem 1. you have loop noted as power supply through surge protector will only stop spike charge. If its a storm outside and your power line gets a surge of energy from nearby lightening the spike will break the fuse in the surge protector and your device
will hopefully not have a heart attack. Surge protectors are not flawless.

Problem 2. Do you enjoy the feeling of electrical shock therapy. All your cables are insulated with a coating to support the feed of electricity to your devices. However, all coating regardless of thickness leach a certain amount of charge. But not at the
level you are describing. It seem that you have not created this the way described.

I suggest that you have a problem at the TV input/output Earthing. This is rather common if you are an electronics nut. And earthing is something of old school because devices today have other means of dealing with earthing energy.

    But there are limitations.

See if your TV plug at the wall socket has an earth pin. If it doesn't find a supplier and buy a cable that fits the TV so it has an earth pin. That's the easiest fix.

Otherwise, At the back of your TV hopefully you will have a set of connectors for Radio or Cable. You can use both these types of input lines for running an earth to an earth point that is not a powered wall socket. DO NOT run this through a powered system.
It becomes a power leakage drain not a powered entity. if you want to do this really cheap connect one end of the cable to the TV and shed off about 6" of bare wire at the other end and bury it in the earth outside to a depth of about 10". It will serve the
same need and you electric shocks will be history.

But there is one other thing you should do. Make sure that none of your surge protectors are doubled up. They can store power if doubled up and you can fry your hardware instead of protecting it. There are rules to follow in electronics and processes are
relative to the function of how you control energy flow. if you do something contrary to general processes you may negate or reverse the function. Be careful - electricity is an unseen killer.

You do not earth the TV bracket, only the device in all cases.

Right I Have unplugged the second surge protector and the TV Areal and it is still doing it,, the TV doesn't have a earth it's just two core cable, I'm pretty much stumped with this, what would you say about earthing the TV mount I know one person said yes
    and someone else said no?

    Thanks for all your replies

I've been an electrician for 19yrs. If you have a voltage tester. Check for voltage between Neutral(white)and Ground(bare or green). You mentioned it started when you wall mounted the tv,yes? Any chance you may have sunk a screw into the wire inside the
    wall?

If there's voltage present between Neutral and Ground, that's a problem. If you hit the wire in the wall, which is stapled to the stud that the outlet box is mounted to,then you could introduce voltage to the wall mount frame. Which is connected to the metal
    frame inside your Tv.

I have a similar problem to the OP. I recently bought a new TV with a metal frame and when both my tv and console are plugged in (not necessarily on) and my xbox is connected via hdmi I get an electric shock if I touch the metal frame of the TV. Neither
the xbox or the tv have the third grounding plug so I guess I'm grounding it? Needles to say it's annoying and slightly worrysome. Any thoughts on what may be causing this?

    Cheers

A question to the other techys out there.

I have seemed to have found the problem, My TV is sending the current through the digital coax for my surround sound, I have changed the connection to rgb and the shocks have stopped on all cables

  14. I guess its an electricity ground on the wall. Try all of the outlet in your house with a tester to find out if your installed wire are grounded. It happened to me once everytime i plug and listen to radio there is a static sound like wind, and light of
my extension cord has a small lighting when its off. its good to have your wire installation check by an expert.
