    A question about dx12

thing is... it can do the work it does now using 1/2 the resources... so to use the same resources it does now... would mean doubling the power... so no.. heat would be the same... output (should) be twice what it is now...

    in theory...

    :)

    Simply not true

It's a click bait title for sure, if you read the actual quotes however it does not imply this at all, the bit in question was

    "not utilizing the ESram efficiently"

I am sure when dx12 drops and they can use it, for its intended purpose all will be fine.

they could have quoted "It will be a very good thing!" about dx12 or "The more objects on screen the more boost you get." which are huge positive benefits.

    Interesting Read about DX12

tell ya what would make me laugh

as the Xbox one is has a custom design GPU so how do we know 100% xbox did not include the DX12 Raster Ordered Views and Conservative Raster hardware ?

after all its a custom design

I very much doubt it has but if it did Boiii would the PC hard core spit there dummies ... that would be a fun read ...

  4. A question about dx12

It would make no difference anyway it's not stressed thermally during normal use as far as I can tell.

My x1 crashed to the dash and ramped the fans up to what I presume is full tilt, that 112 mm can spin and it's loud enough to be audible from a fair distance, I left it for a while but had to shut it down to sort it.

There was a ton of room between normal gaming rpm and omg it's a plane too loud rpm for extra cooling, it has some headway.

It's all theory at this point.

First One games using it expected around holiday season of 2015, PC should have about 6 months of releases using it prior to that and should allow the console developers time to deal with any issues that pop up with it.

It will more than likely be exclusive to Win 8 so they'll need to convince the PC gamers to give up our trusty Win 7 which won't be an easy sell. Lots of wait and see stuff.

I believe I read DX12 is backwards compatible... don't quote me.

You guys are hilarious, I have no doubt DX-12 may improve performance, I have done a lot a research and the common expectation is a 10 to 15% increase in output from the X1, but if you actually are buying this "Double"rubbish you are a little silly....

Please remember the hardware is what it is, DX-12 is not a magic pill that will some how make it perform twice what it is capable of...

Anyways, I guess we will see soon enough, now to the actually question.... The X1 is a cooling beast, really well designed, I reckon it can handle anything!

    A question about dx12

the increase in performance is gained through efficiencies created by DX12... I don't buy that it will double the performance but there will be a significant/noticeable increase.

I'm sure Microsoft know what their doing in regards to DX12 so I doubt we should worry.

I'm convinced though from using this forum before the Xbox One was released to this day that there's a few on here that must break out in a sweat, or start getting palpitations when there's any news/stories that is even half positive towards Xbox One.

I've said in the past, I know nothing of how these machines work, I know nothing of how DX12 will work, well only from what I've read. I do read though a lot of what the developers have to say and quite a few of them seem very optimistic about DX12 and these
folks are not your average fanboy, these folks are the one's making the games so who do I side with here, go with what the developers say, basically that games will improve ( even if only by a small amount ) or those sitting behind their screens sweating with
    thumping in their chests?

    ;-)

  10. Although i think DX12 will have a good impact on the X1, i don't really see it as doubling its power.

It's more about the tools and how to develop smarter.

It will balance the load so more can be put through, but still developers need to learn and understand both the architecture and DX12 to fully make it work.

Look at Tiled Resources, it's a way to push more in a smarter way, but if you as a developer don't use it, then it will still boil down to basic hardware.

I don't remember which developer talked about this, but basically the specific tools and hardware on the X1 requires a bit more focused development, due to people not understanding how to utilize the EsRAM to it's full potential as an example.

Now for developers who have a tight timeframe, making a multiconsole game, they need a way to create their product fast for the systems chosen, so being able to write the games more generically and trust the hardware, is easier for them.

This is where DX12 and it's toolset comes in, it help them move in that direction. Most developers have knowledge of game development via DX systems i would think.

And the one thing developers have been begging MS for is for tools to better help the development process. MS answered with DX12. And from the inital respons out there, it seems developers are liking what they see.

    TL;DR

Basically, don't expect an overpowered machine. But expect increased performance and better games, simply due to developers getting a better toolset and resource management for creating games via the DX12.

The way I understand it, right now programmers are only able to use part of the X1s power. With DX12 routines programmers will be able to utilize most the power of the X1.

I have written several programs in Z80A assembly language, there is always things you can do to make your code more efficient so it will allow the hardware to do things faster.

    A question about dx12

Lol @cujo 10-15% from your research lol

Let's see shall we upto 50% increase on dx11 devices as quoted by AMD and nvidia, that's dx11 !!!!

then Intel, amd, nvidia, games developers have all said that it could be upto 4 times over current gen.

And your research says 10% lol, when I get to work i will post links to back myself up, I suggest you do the same.

    @Rippen & f00x

My research is from reading threads from multiple developers, I can only go off what the professionals say matey. Lets see, I may go put some DX-12 magic software into my cars computer, it will make my 6 cylinder go like a V12.... seriously, get off the
fanboy wagon and realise that MS and those vested in this system will say anything to try to compensate for poor hardware choice!

And yes, I do know the hardware, its clearly stated in the specs, as I said before, it is what it is... software will improve/tweak, but never double the output.

Like I said before, we will see when it drops, then you can eat your words.....
