    As I mentioned in the season 2 ideas thread I would like to see tagging make its way to KI. Here is how I think it should be implemented and function.







    - It should be a separate mode of play.



    - It should feature 2v2 and 2v1 handicap play (this refers to players, not characters, which should always be 2v2.



    Teams should be made both through local an online co-op(meaning matches at most have four players on separate consoles)











    As far as gameplay:



    Teams of two

    Characters can only be selected once per team (cannot be Jago/Jago).

    Health set at 150% per character.

    Team shares an instinct meter, equivalent to 125% normal. Once triggered, it affects whichever character is in play. It however only resets the combo meter of the character who triggered it.

    Each character has their own combo meter, which functions the same as it does in standard play. A tagged in player's meter resumes where it left off when tagged out.

    Combo meter also includes a purple "tag" meter under the yellow combo gauge.

    Tags can only be performed during combos.

    Tags have a set cooldown, can only be triggered two autodoubles after the previous use(in example).

    Tags are performed by input command (qcf+k, f,d,f+p) and may be low med or heavy.

    Combo breaker executed at the moment of a tag results in a "tag breaker".

    Tag breakers result in a double throw which grounds the escaping opponent and flings the incoming opponent back offscreen. Both take permanent throw damage

    [/quote] For the Proposal achievement, you need to invite 5 players to a game by using the invite screen. You need to enter their gamertag to invite them.

    I don't think anything else needs to be said.

    Where do i begin?

    KI is not a tag mode game.

    It completely changes the dynamic of the game.

    It's not a game designed for it.

    It's not MvC.

    They already said they aren't going to implement in the streams.

    I'd rather they spend their time on new/old characters, more rank options, more stages, more ultras, ultimates, story mode, etc.

    There are more things important than introducing a play style from a different genre of game.

    I have already addressed this but I'll say it again. The whole core of KI is sustaining combos for high damage. A game mechanic that takes that concept further is hardly changing the whole dynamic of the game. Did Tekken not play like Tekken when tagging
    was added? Mortal Kombat 9 tag doesn't play like MK singles? Implemented properly it would change little. Both of those were "not tag mode games", until they were.

    You make mention of MvC as if it the only way to implement tagging. And if it were made to play like MvC, then you'd be right, it wouldn't work. But if you look at my example above it is obvious that it can be achieved while maintaining the base of KI.

    And no one said they wanted this instead of characters, stages, etc. I say if they have the resources to do it, then do it all. They can work on this in parts until it is finished and still prioritize adding the base elements first.

    and "genre"? I do not think that word means what you think it means.

    @TroN so adding a completely optional mode of play that you don't have to touch and doesn't affect the main game will make KI dead to you? Then you should probably be playing something else anyway, you don't like KI that much.

    Tag mode is not needed right now. The game has 8 characters, the focus should be on delivering another 8 of equal quality and diversity in year 2, and then another 8 the year after.

    They are trying to make a competitive and balanced game, and doing that with a tag mode is a challenge few games have ever succeeded in (have any really?).

    Once this game has 24, maybe even 32 characters - I think we can say Phase One is complete - an FG with an extensive roster has been delivered and then they can look at the "silly stuff".

    Stuff like tag mode, I'm fine if they chuck that in there for fun once the core game is "complete" - no way in hell should it be a diversion of resources at this point.

  11. @TroN I'm not the one threatening to jump ship if more gameplay variety is added to the game, that's you, chief. I am asking for a game type that I enjoy to be added to a game that I love. I don't see how wanting more gameplay variety in the only fighter
    I am interested in playing right now is a bad thing. More variety=more longevity and MS seems to be going in for the long haul with KI.

    @Stefraki I'd rather make the assumption that IG is a capable studio that would know how to allocate their resources in a manner that would allow them to either make this happen or simply not do it if it isn't possible. All this talk of wasting manpower
    makes me believe that people don't have faith in the studio to prioritize what's important.

    No one is asking for them to sacrifice the quality of their work on the more important aspects of the game. I trust that they can make the final call on whether it's possible to add more game types.

    And yes, there are games that feature tagging where the mechanic doesn't break the game. In those games that suffer from such imbalance it is generally due to the glut of characters they avail. That is why I personally would rather if we make it to season
    3 see the roster top at 20 characters. That is a good number that should allow for a reasonably full cast that maintains diversity and balance while not tacking on unnecessary characters just for the sake of doing so. One thing I DO NOT WANT in KI is useless
    characters or clones.

    If we keep the roster neat, IG should be capable of adding more gameplay content to the game without issue, I'd think. But since I don't work for their team, I don't profess to know what actually is or isn't within their power and can only make suggestions,
    trusting them to do what they may.

    @ToneSim It's not about a lack of faith in IG's abilities, it's about being realistic about how much resource they have. If we assume they have the same budget at DH did for S1 to make S2 - they barely managed 8 characters and basic modes. Add to this the
    fact that IG have LESS time than DH (unless S2 is delayed until mid 2015) and you can even assume they are hugely more efficient that DH and they still don't have time for superfluous game modes or the "NetherRealms" style story modes loads of people are asking
    for.

    There are also other disadvantages to adding multiple modes when the game still has a relatively small install base -

    You think it can be tough finding a game online sometimes now? Now split the pool of players between tag and 1v1 and you've made the situation a whole lot worse.

    Again - once the game has 24, 32 characters, and presumably a much larger install base by then - I have no issues with things being mixed up and all kinds of crazy modes right now.

    At this point in time this game is in progress - it's a third finished at best and I want to see the main game delivered before it diverts onto tangents.

    Well, like I said, I make no assumptions about what they can do, and that is why I feel that I should ask for what I want regardless of whether it is possible at this point or not. I trust that IG can look at the situation from all angles, including your
    concerns, and make the judgment call. Considering that the game is already a success in the eyes of MS, I am willing to believe that they would not be adverse to pumping more money and/or manpower into the project. At the very least I want to express my want
    for this so that even if it isn't on the table now, it can be when IG finds it feasible.

    I'm not saying "DO IT NOW OR FKK THIS GAME!!11!". I just would like to see the addition. I love KI as it is , but would also like new ways to play. Simple.

    That’s cool, I’m not saying you’re wrong for wanting any particular feature – you like what you like. Others are just putting it on the record that they don’t want, or particularly care about it.

    There are some aspects of “tag” style games I would be more OK with. I don’t like the lack of balance that seems to come in every fighting game where players can chose more than one character. It just seems an impossible balancing act. It’s tough work to
    make sure every character has an evened out set of match ups against the rest of the cast in fighting games – throw mixing characters up in there and it becomes impossible. There is always an overpowered combination and combinations not worth choosing.

    But if what people want is the ability for you to play with a friend against the world, there are some aspects of that which could be brought into KI without disturbing the balance of the game or the roster.

    For example you could have two people play one character – local or online – with each player responsible for one life bar, switching each match between the two players taking the first and second bars.

    If it was done well, I wouldn’t even mind “tagging” between lifebars/players so long as it was the same character, although they’d have to work out some well-balanced risk-reward method of doing it (maybe the instinct launching animation with a different
    effect around it, but the screen doesn’t pause and they are vulnerable during it).
