    A problem with my PSU


    I bought my Xbox One in the US but this week I traveled to Egypt. I completely forgot about the fact that Egypt uses 220V electricity system. So when I connected the 100V PSU directly to the outlet smoke came out of it (the PSU). So I removed it quickly.

    I was not sure if everything was destroyed so I bought a power transformer that transforms the 220v to 110v. I tested it and to my surprise the Xbox worked. But when I try to play some games (with DVDs) the power cuts off completely.

    Also, on the side of the PSU I noticed a liquid coming out of it. At first I thought maybe someone spilled water in this area but when I smelled it it smelt weird.

    Anyway, I just want to make sure if all this means that only the PSU got damaged or I need to repair something in the console itself.

    Note: I'm not looking for a link to the electrical safety guide for the Xbox my question is about a problem that has actually happened so it is too late for safety.

    Hi, I am still waiting for the new PSU but yesterday I received a 220v to 110v converter with 400W and It's working really well with the US PSU.

    So for the moment even without the EU PSU I can play,

    I will keep you updated regarding the EU PSU but I was chatting yesterday with xbox assistance and there is a small problem as I did not get the tracking number. Nobody knows the tracking number of the EU PSU so they are "investigating".

    PSU light is orange, until I plug it into the console...

    When the psu is plugged into the socket but not the console, the light is orange. As soon as it's plugged into the console, the light goes red and the console won't switch on. Does this suggest a problem with the console rather than the psu? I don't want
    to buy a new psu if it's not the problem...

    REPAIRED BY MICROSOFT BUT...

    The older PSU's should fit the newer models. The PSU connectors on the HDMI models of the original Xbox 360 are keyed, which means that incompatible PSU's won't fit these machines. Your older pre-HDMI console PSU should fit your HDMI console though. Does
    your PSU not fit your replacement console?

    It is very likely that the problem may be with your PSU, before buying a new PSU I recommend that you take your PC to a professional to check if it is in fact the PSU or other components of your PC.

    Hi Vashta,

    I have indeed registered my own console first. They are apparently only allowed to replace the PSU of EU consoles in the Microsoft system. though the individual people working at the support unit are willing to switch out my american PSU for a european
    one, though to do this they would need a serial number from a unit purchased in the EU, to type into their system. once i get the PSU in the mail, they say it is no problem to just de-register.
