A New Day at Xbox ( by Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox )

So I see that some of you are "excited" by this "new day", but I'm not really getting WHY this is such a big deal. Phil's just the latest M$ Puppet to interface with their dwindling population and tell them what they want to hear, and before you go assuming
that this is some "SONY Pony" speaking here, I think that SONY's just as daft when it comes to delivering on "Next Generation" hardware, so let's get back to Phil shall we. In this recent 'Gamespot' article

    http://www.gamespot.com/articles/microsoft-we-shouldn-t-have-sugar-coated-the-xbox-one-controversy/1100-6418296/
    Phil is quoted as saying:

"I learned a ton last summer as a leader of our groups and in our company about being true to your core vision around what a product is, not being confusing, and frankly,
when you're going to say something to a consumer that might put them off, it's better to just be direct and honest, rather than trying to sugar-coat something that might be controversial," he said.

Now, I don't know of any consumer that WOULDN'T agree with the above bolded statement, but I find it very difficult to believe that the person who's spearheading the XBOX Brand into the "next generation" only just learned this valuable lesson
"last summer". Once you get past the PRB$ that this really is, it's pretty clear to me that this "new day" is "just another day" at Micro$oft, and at the rate that this battered team changes figureheads, you can be sure that the next one
will also follow in the previous puppet's footsteps who's feet never really do stay grounded due to the constant tugging of various puppetstrings from the PuppetMaster above, the Shareholders, who've accumulated wealth over the years by ordering regular sugar
    dustings.

Look at how vALVE's CEO Gabe Newell personally responded to "something that might be controversial" recently which was somewhat reminiscent of the privacy concerns that Microsoft found themselves confronted with last Spring with the Kinect "always on" news

    http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/176829-valve-trust-us-our-vac-anti-cheat-software-isnt-interested-in-your-porn-surfing-habits
a clear explanation in 24hrs by one of the men who founded the Corporation that laid all concerns to rest immediately, no sugar
added. While Phil's words here may sound sincere to the avid XBOX ONE supporters, ask yourselves why he's even talking about this in 2014? Why is this even a story? If this is "exciting" then I'd say that you're all in for another long year. Now that the
hype-machine has stopped spitting out 'TinCanFall' branded "sugar", it's clear that this is the first 'Spencer' branded frosting to plug their E3 plans which they'd clearly fumbled on last year for a number of reasons. Don Mattrick's face wasn't much appreciated
at E3 last year, even by the most staunch of XBOX supporters which prompted his quick and painless exit. M$ want to attach a new face to the sugarbox before they reveal its contents at E3, but they don't fool this 360 supporter, same *** different day, under
the guise of a "new day"..A New Day at Xbox ( by Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox ) :)

He's always seemed genuine to me. Glad he got the job, I've always felt that he's a little more like us, instead of a big head in a suit.

  5. Arkham, there are good ways and bad ways to make an argument - you chose the latter. Because you did so, you're going to have a hard time getting many people here to agree with you, even if you may be right (and I'm certainly not saying you are or aren't).

Arkham, I can tell you why I personally am excited Phil is now in charge. First of all, he came from Microsoft Game Studios, so he is all about gaming, not some other agenda. He has given a few different interviews where he talks about the negative impacts
of fanboyism and even mentions he owns a PS4.

You pulled out one excerpt from an interview in which Phil is saying you have to be honest to your customers, especially when you're doing something controversial. From only his words, you decide that this is just PR talk, even though you don't even know
what the question he was answering was. But if you follow him on Twitter, he says a lot of things that seem very genuine, even if they are not necessarily flattering of MS.

So does this mean that basically any idea/vision he has for the Xbox can go ahead or will he still need to run it by the powers above. Phil always seems to have the gamers in his heart, he will be a far better Head than that buffoon Don Mattprick.

what is really going to change? hardware is already set up as it is so it is just to hope that devs really start to get out of it as much as possible! but after all xbox one is and will stay a entertainment box and never become a real gaming machine ...

  10. Double, what are you talking about? It IS a real gaming machine - it actually plays games! Just because it does more doesn't make it any LESS of a gaming machine...

Galctic, there are alot of systems out there which plays games, but that does not make it a gaming machine! it has been advertised as an entertainment console with a lot of focus on TV and such stuff! so just by putting a new guy there does not mean it is
going to change that much! as i said, let's see if the devs are going to get more out of it as it can deliver right now!

forgot: that is my opinion and hope to get proved wrong by MS

  12. Double, although you're right about other devices (like cell-phones and tablets), the Xbox has been and will always be a gaming machine 1st - Spencer will see to that - just you wait and see. A New Day at Xbox ( by Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox ) ;)

Well according to Phil Spencer, he wants the Xbox One to be a gaming machine first.

following suit, that would mean that my phone is not a phone first because i browse the web and play games on it more than make phone calls and send text messages. just because there are new media features, doesn't make it any less of a gaming machine.

the X1 is a gaming machine, but MS fumbled the ball by highlighting the media features before the gaming features. i think this E3 will be the most exciting one yet.

  15. I laugh at the people who think the Xbox One isn't a gaming machine first. By the logic of everyone who thinks this way, the PS4 must be a media machine rather than a gaming machine since it has media apps and features. Same with the Wii U, and every device
that is on the market now. Gaming has always been the focus on the Xbox One.
