A lot of problems with the xbox one

    Big Jeff V,

Whilst I agree on certain aspects of your comment, there are a few things you must remember. The advertisement says that the Xbox One Console contains a 500GB Hard Drive, which is true. There is no false advertising there. However, just because there is
a 500GB Hard Drive installed does not mean there is 500GB of free space, nor does the advertisement in any way claim that this is the case. It's not a case of companies being 'greedy', it's a case of the data required to powered these insanely complex systems
is becoming larger and larger to allow for better performance, higher quality graphics, bigger expansion potential, etc. etc...

It would be nice if, as you say, the OS and other system files were stored separately and we got extra space on our consoles, but that would be a mere luxury and isn't totally necessary. Please bear in mind that there is also a 1TB version of the Xbox One
Console available to give you that extra room that you seem to be fighting for! On top of that, the Xbox One supports External Hard Drives up to 16TB in size and you can add more than one (up to three, off the top of my head). That means that you can expand
your available storage by more than 32x what the original internal drive is capable of, simply by adding one extra External Hard Drive to the mix.

In my personal opinion, it would be a waste of money to move the OS to an independent solid state/flash drive, as this would just push the price of the console up for the added components - to a point where it would likely be cheaper to have simply purchased
an External Hard Drive and got far more space from it. The difference with something like an iPhone is that this expansion isn't really possible, as they don't support Micro SD/SD card expansion, or any other real form of storage expansion (hence the potential
    lawsuit).

Just a thought A lot of problems with the xbox one :)

  2. You never get the advertised space on a hard drive no matter where you get it from or what you use it for.

Its all to do with the way they calculate the MB`s, all too technical for me but it works out you lose about 7% of the advertised space every time, before you even start.

I don`t have an xbox one so i have no idea what`s taking up the 200gb.

@theowen I know you never get the advertised space. But your talking about nothing 7%? And with better Hard drive technology and better file systems you able to bet much more space out of a drive.

@NZ false advertisement may be to harsh but at the very least its misleading. The issue I have its like buying a home that's 1500 sqft but 500 sqft is not yours and in fact it will never be yours. It will be someone's and not yours. Also I know they have
the TB my kid has it. Also I have a TB external in my xbox but that is subpar. The external HD is USB 3.0 which means it has to be converted into that from SATA to USB to SATA again and USB is not faster than SATA. I keep all junk, apps, etc on my external
and all frequently played games in internal for that reason. Space is great but if you cannot use it as fast it just deprecates your gaming experience in terms of longer load times.

If it were up to me I would have a the OS on Flash and the main drive SSD or at the very least a hybrid drive. Spinning drives are great for endurance but if your not buying a velociraptor 10,000rpm drive its not worth it. I have two intel SSD's raided together
at raid 0 and two velociRaptor's and a single WD black at 7200rpm strictly for backups. And that's just IN my PC. So while there may be people out there that may not want to spend the money it shouldn't hinder those like me who likes to have the performance.
We are called enthusiast and people like me are the ones to push the envelope which then in turn pushes innovation that trickles down to all others that settle for whatever is offered to them.

I hope that companies stop taking advantage of the customer in this manner. This is an easy fix and if it costs them more pass it along?? It is what is done anyway. We are talking about pennies to add more memory nothing that's going to break the bank.

Personally I'm not a great fan of SSDs at the moment. I have my OS on a 120gb OCZ Vertex Plus and to be honest once started up I'm struggling to see the performance benefit compared to when I had the OS on a Seagate 1tb SSHD.

For me the performance benefits of SSDs do not compensate the higher price for less storage space.

  5. Yeh, that`s all that technical stuff i was on about.

I just say, minus 7gb for every 100gb the drive is supposed to have.

SSD's are comming down in price and the speed is way faster. My PC loads in 11 seconds. I find that when you raid them its cheaper as well. I only store me OS and program files on my SSD's all documents, media, etc are relocated to my WD Velociraptor. I
actually moved the targets to my other drive. That way my SSD is lean and mean. The read write and file transfers are amazingly fast. I have Intels Cherryville series SSD's. Intel makes the best silicon so that's where I put my money.

  7. They are coming down but when I can buy a 1tb SSHD for the same price as a 250gb SSD, then that is when I start to think on whether the performance is worth the price.

All I have on my SSD is the OS and my Office apps. All my games and media are on a separate hard drive.

Given that when my PC is turned on it remains on for hours, the boot-up time is not something I would consider of importance.

When SSDs are the same price as a traditional hard drive for the same amount of storage, then I'll be singing their praises. I've had games on an SSD and you quite often get blink and you miss it loading times. Yet given that because of their smaller space
I have to put games on an traditional hard drive, what's the point? Saving less than a minute when I start the PC?

Well my PC has a 1000w power supply so I don't keep it running. Faster boot times are not the only advantage. Read and Write is not even close. And I don't believe they will ever be the same price or similar. Disc's will always be cheaper per GB.

I have had PC's that you can make yourself a cup of coffee come back and take a few sips before you put in your password. Then you put in your password and sit there for another 20 minutes waiting for it to start up all the programs and processes. I mean
I have been down that road.

With a SSD its like the closest you can get to a linux OS but on windows in terms of speed. Linux file system is just better. ZFS is my favorite but windows is the dominate game in town. You have to have windows to do a lot especially in work.

There are way more problems than just that OP. The Party Chat system only works less than half the time. I thought this was meant for gaming and multiplayer gaming but you can't even sustain a chat with your team. This console is a joke and I will not be
following Microsoft in the future. I mean that don't even address feedback. Not one word spoken about how messed up the console is.
