A good addition to the community?

When I was a kid there was no such thing as adult games... for the most part anyway. Games in general were considered to be for kids, although many adults played them as well. So the closest I think I can come to this experience would be that I routinely
watched R rated movies and read books with adult themes and content, like Stephen King. My mom would rent R rated horror movies all the time and us kids would watch them with her, all kinds of violence and a few boobs like all those 80's horror films. Didn't
hurt me in the slightest. But then again my parents also taught me morals, seems like few parents pay any attention to kids nowadays.

But if a parent doesn't want their kid exposed to violent video games or R rated movies that is their choice. Although I'd say the first thing parents that feel that way should do is get rid of all internet. Because if anything is damaging to kids it is
all the pornography and violence found online that kids are routinely allowed access to from the age five. I think most eight year old kids in the US today have FAR more sexual knowledge then I did at age 14 in the 80's, and most of them have FAR more sexual
experience at age 12 then I did at age 18. I know if I ever have kids, I'll not have internet available to them anymore than I'll have PPV adult channels on my tv.

But I'd let them play games like Skyrim, as long as you teach them the difference between fantasy and reality. It would be no different then me watching Conan the Barbarian as a kid. But there would be no multiplayer, because there would be no internet.
If anything would be bad about games, it would most likely come from people encountered through internet multiplayer.

My parents allowed me to play M rated games as a kid, probably shouldn't have, but I grew up fine. Looking back, I wouldn't allow a child of my own to play GTA or many M rated games. Maybe back in the day, when games weren't as realistic, but these days
I would never let a kid play GTA.

That's essentially what I was saying Black Bones...the realism in today's games makes them a lot more graphic than what they were 15-20 years ago. There really is almost no comparison. My parents would have NOT let me played some of the graphic games of
today as a child.

i believe it should be up to the parents to decide, i mean if little Jimmy is throwing rocks at puppies or other violent tendencies , then i wouldn't introduce them to 18+ rated games, i'd introduce them to therapy, but a kid who's actions show they understand
the difference between right and wrong, and always try to do what's right, then i'm all for it.

but i do doubt that you'd see that kind maturity and understanding from a 8 year old.

do not play GTA for various reasons. Also, I am not 8. I plan to go to college, get a good job, and be very successful. Obviously older people than myself saying I will end up in my parents basement at the age of 30, is really just sad. Wouldn't you agree?
Someone active on this post must have been VERY convincing if your opinion has changed in a matter of hours.
