  2. Personally I think no, but that's because my parents did the same to me and I didn't understand it at the time, but I'm glad I was told no in regards to this as well as watching Jurassic Park for the first time at around age 10.... That scared me even when
    I was 16, hahaha.

  3. Are you implying that my main account is the account that used 'doe' for though? If so, you are wrong. I've never made a post on any Xbox forums with my main account.

P.S) I'm sure there's a lot more people on these forums that have at least replaced 'doe' for though once ^^

    I think different about it.

In the end the age rating is an advice not a dictation.

If you have a very smart kid it will be bored since it understands all this things.

Why would you try to protect it from something he she understands and knows already?

I see no sense in that.

  6. However smart a child is at maths or english etc, subjecting it to the language and violence in a game like GTA can`t possibly be good for them.

  7. I understand the rift between fantasy and reality. Playing through the 'No Russian' level in MW2 did not give me the urge to shoot up an airport. It never will, because I understand killing pixels is not the same thing as killing a real live person. OwenKiller,
curse words are just that. They're just words. As long as I'm not cursing around the house, does it really matter?

yawn...no point in continuing this discussion really. Parents are going to do what they do. Some let their kids play any game regardless of rating and for all day long. It's just plain ol' crappy parenting, and then they go on Dr. Phil years later and
cry about what a bum their 30 year old basement dwelling spawn is and expect help to undo years of non existent parenting.

You have a good way of putting it, I have 4 kids, I try to keep them off the bad stuff but is difficult with the way tech is now, I have filtered my internet access so no porn, hate, drugs etc etc are accessible and blocked all facebook access (lol) but
the news sites show more violence than any game.

the whole point of the 18+ rating is to keep it away from impressionable kids, i personally believe that if someone is under the age of 18, but is capable of exercising free thought and reasoning, they should be allowed to play whatever game they want, but
the problem is how to sort out the simple minded ones that might believe what they're seeing on the screen is acceptable in real life? you can't, so make it 18+ then it's someones else problem and if that person is 18+, they can just go to jail for having
"monkey see, monkey do" level of stupidity.

i use to play several questionable PC games in my youth, granted the graphical level of Leisure Suit Larry running in MS-DOS wasn't as revealing as games are today, but i had a very active imagination when i was a kid, but i was never influenced by that,
or Doom, or Wolfenstein, they were games, and i think it takes a special kind of person to not under that, under 18 or not.

heck, i still think a much worse influence on people is the news, horrible stuff everyday, and that's real.... unless it's Fox News.

  11. Well when I was a kid I was playing DOOM and Wolfenstein too and maybe in that time period it was a questionable kids game, but nothing compared to what I've seen in GTA5 and loads of other games in current day. I'm a pretty laid back person, but my honest
thought is that I've played probably a hundred or more violent, bloody, graphic games and I wouldn't want my kid playing any of them until he/she was at a higher maturity level. Just because an 8 year old says "Hey mom, I want to play GTA5 and I know it's
just a game!" wouldn't make me feel okay about him/her playing it. I would just laugh and sit him down with Minecraft.

i believe it should be up to the parents to decide, i mean if little Jimmy is throwing rocks at puppies or other violent tendencies , then i wouldn't introduce them to 18+ rated games, i'd introduce them to therapy, but a kid who's actions show they understand
the difference between right and wrong, and always try to do what's right, then i'm all for it.

but i do doubt that you'd see that kind maturity and understanding from a 8 year old.

Ha. That's funny BizzaroMantis. As soon as you said 'yawn, no point in continuing this conversation', you evidently continued it. Also, if you look back in your previous replies on my post, you'll see that your opinion changed drastically. Be reminded I
do not play GTA for various reasons. Also, I am not 8. I plan to go to college, get a good job, and be very successful. Obviously older people than myself saying I will end up in my parents basement at the age of 30, is really just sad. Wouldn't you agree?
Someone active on this post must have been VERY convincing if your opinion has changed in a matter of hours.

  14. Yeah? Let's see:

    I said:

    "Kid, go play outside."

I still stand by that statement.

    Then...

"Personally, I don't think that a child's brain should be exposed so early to the bloody images that are in most M rated video games. I think it can have a detrimental effect over time."

    Yup, I still believe that.

    Then I said:

"Well you seem mature for your age, so if you know the difference between fantasy and reality, and your parents are okay with it, then play on. "

I believe this too... that it's up to your parents.

What I said after that is just my opinion on gaming and kids being exposed to M rated games before they really should be and what I would do if my own child asked me to play an M rated game. Maybe you are misunderstanding me?

  15. Maybe I have. I felt like your post about crying parents and someone living in a basement was directed at me.
