Can someone explain to me why we can't edit posts after a short time window? What is the real harm in doing so. I mean we make a post, click submit, go and eat or whatever and notice "oh I made a mistake" and we can't edit it anymore. Plus when we are able
to edit we are forced to enter an edit note, so if we have to do edit notes, why is it that we are limited to a extremely and somewhat laughable edit time window?

Personally I am of the mind that the edit time is long enough. If the post is long enough that you can't make some corrections inside a couple of minutes then I would say more time should have been spent on it before hitting the post button.

However I do agree about the edit notes section. I just enter random letter in there. It seems a pointless addition if the page isn't going to mention that a post has been edited.

 

As Scratch recently posted, it's to make people stand behind what they say. You can imagine some of the arguments that have gone on around this place, if people could keep changing their post to suit themselves or make others look bad, it would be maddening.

 

Also, if there's an error, why not just make another post correcting yourself? I think the edit time is long enough.

 

@Dr. Black Bones - You do make a good point. However I don't see making an entire new thread just to fix some random mistakes, otherwise there would be a whole page with the same thread.

Another reason I would like to edit a post after awhile is for reviews. Say you do a review on a game and say "I'll post more later" and instead of having to make a new reply just click edit and add some more of your review.

@Vaynel - I don't mean to sound rude and i am so sorry if I do. And I do see your point and have seen many arguments on here. And yes I do see your point, however if someone is going to change their mind it's going to be either editing there post or saying
"Oh yeah that's what I meant..." with a new reply. Arguments are going to happen no matter what.

As I mentioned in the other thread about this... I like that the window closes about 5 minutes after you post. We've had some real idiots post here (and normal people make idiotic posts). I like the idea that they are forced to stand behind what they wrote.
