A few questions about transferring licenses to another console...

Question 1: When you transfer a license to another console, is it only for one game, or is it for all the games on the account that the license is being transferred from? Let's say you transfer license from account A on Xbox A to Xbox B, would you be able
to get on any other accounts on Xbox B and play all the games that account A has or will you just be able to play the game that the license was transferred from, and you would have to wait an additional six months every time you wanna transfer a license from
another game?

Question 2: If you use account A to purchase a game on console B, would you be able to go on any accounts on console B to finish downloading the game, and would you be able to use any accounts afterwards to play the game, or do you HAVE to stay on account
A to finish downloading it?

sub-question: If you CAN go on another account to finish downloading the game, would you be able to log back on console A with account A to download the game simultaneously? Would it cause any problems?

Question 3: If you buy a game off of Xbox.com, how would the license work? Would the license go to the first console you connect with the account that you purchased it with?

Friend used wrong account for purchase

What you are talking about (License Transferring) and transferring a game to someone else's gamertag are two different things. When someone buys something off of the market place 2 licenses are issued

1. The Gamertag

2. The console the game was purchased.

Those are the only licenses that are issued. You can not transfer a license from one gamertag to another. What license transferring is, is when you transfer the license from one console to another, not from one gamertag to another.

It is very unfortunate what happened to your friend but the bottom line is your gamertag and the the console it was purchased on owns the license and there is no way to transfer that license to your friend. Unfortunately keanakalia was correct when she said
that he would have to buy the game under his gamertag, If he wants to own the game himself.

 

Concerns with moving exclusive data to a new console

I read something about transferring licenses from one console to another for them to work on the new one. Is that something I'll have to do as well or can I leave all the licenses on the old console?

 

1) A license transfer will transfer licenses for all content on an account. You don't get to pick and choose which ones to transfer. So any accounts on Xbox B would be able to access any content from account A. FYI, you only have to wait 4 months between
transfers, not 6.

2) Any account on console B would be able to access the game, but I believe you do have to finish downloading with account A first.

3) The license would be tied to whatever console you initially download the game on.

 

For answer 1, does console B get any future content that account A purchases on console A? Why were there people telling me that you would have to sign into the account that made the purchase in order to play it, if it you were not on the console that you
made the purchase on?

 

Console B would only get the content if account A downloads it on that console first. If account A were to download content on console A first, the license would be tied to console A.

When you purchase content the licenses are tied to the gamertag that purchased it as well as the console it was purchased on (or originally downloaded on). The console license is what allows the other accounts to access the content. The account that purchased
the content can redownload and use the content on any other console as long as it is signed into Live, but any other profiles would only be able to use the content on the console that has the licenses.

 

I see. Let's say my friend lives in the UK, and I live in the US. Now I wanna share Destiny with her, so I let her use my account to buy Destiny on her console so she could play it. I have enough money on my account to buy Destiny, would there be any problems
or violations if I let her use my account to buy Destiny because she's in the UK? Would she be able to use my MS money to buy it without any problems?

 

License transfers are only meant to be used to move your licenses in the event you get a new console. It is not meant to be used to share content like that and can be considered marketplace theft. Letting other people use your account like that is also a
violation of the code of conduct. So both of you would risk being banned.

 

Not to mention most likely won't work because of region locks
