Ones connection speed has everything to do with how much they are pinging around. Just not the speed most think. You can have 80mbps down and 1-2 Mbps upload and you will not be happy unless you are just downloading
    something.

When uploading matters, such as when a player is constantly uploading to a game/ or companys server... Then that little 2 mbps is starting to look abit incompatible!

Get a better upload speed OP, i am sitting on 54 down and 10 up, i hardly ever lag ever.

Going to have to disagree a little here. One's connection speed is important, that's not in question... but TBH, the amount of data a game sends out (ie uploads) isn't that much.
I recall reading a few articles about this, but it's been awhile so I can't recall where.

Upload speed becomes more important when the player is hosting because they not only have to receive game data from all other players, but their console now has to process, sync
and send relevant data back out to all other players. In all honesty, 2Mbps should be sufficient for gaming as long as one isn't uploading large files from several other devices simultaneously. Which isn't that common anyway. Most people want to stream video
and/or music which means you need more download capacity. Add to this, the fact that many (if not most) of the new games (Titanfall, fe) are using dedicated servers, which means the cloud does the hosting, rather than peer to peer and upload speed becomes
    less critical.

Again, my situation was a perfect example. When we first moved to this house, as I said in my previous post, my gaming connection was intermittently laggy. My ISP basically rewired
everything from house to pole and I optimized my network settings. Also, as I said, that made a night/day difference... 5+ years ago... back when we first moved and only had a 10 down, 3 up connection...

Personally, I would focus on low ping and packet loss numbers and double check NAT settings before I became overly concerned with download and upload speeds. Again, unless they're
horribly low. Most current ISPs aren't that bad... at least to my knowledge.

  2. The sky bloke put me on a " gamer" profile .. 14 down ..6 up.

IF , as people have said , Bf was crappy ... but Ea have now fixed it ... What does that have to do with a user port forwarding his dmz ?...

The other side of the coin , is some people are too quick to blame the user , instead of live or the developers multiplayer coding .

Maybe its the age old case of .. it does not happen to me , therefore it does not exist / is your fault.

Second the BF4 recommendation. Even Naval Strike is lag-free now.

IF , as people have said , Bf was crappy ... but Ea have now fixed it ... What does that have to do with a user port forwarding his dmz ?...

    BF is a bad example
because it was crappy. EA has always had crap servers. Many games from other devs don't suffer such problems. If you're having problems with other games that don't have a reputation like that, then it's a different story.

You can either port forward, or you can set your Xbox's IP address in your router's DMZ, but you don't need to do both. All routers have built in security features anywhere from
simple NAT filtering to firewalls to QOS features. All of these features are designed to keep 'bad internet traffic' out while allowing you to stay connected to the internet. NAT filtering is a big one. It needs to be open for XBL. If it is moderate or strict,
you WILL have connection issues varying from not being able to hear certain people in some lobbies to getting kicked out of some games and a host of others, it's a fact.

Putting your Xbox's IP address in the DMZ, to almost over simplify it, simply tells your router to bypass all those security features and expose [only] your Xbox directly to the
internet. It sounds more dangerous than it is and it will solve many connection problems.

The other side of the coin , is some people are too quick to blame the user , instead of live or the developers multiplayer coding .

Generally it's a combination of all those things... I blame the problem itself. More often than not, like it or not, the user is a part of it. You can either blame the devs and XBL all
day long and accomplish nothing, or you can check into some things that you are capable of doing, like optimizing your network settings... and you may just see some results. It's basic troubleshooting. You're responsible for your end of it, simple as that. Then
it's up to your ISP to check their end if you still have issues.

Maybe its the age old case of .. it does not happen to me , therefore it does not exist / is your fault.

Actually... it did happen to me, therefore I know it exists. I got on it and made changes to things that were in my power to change [because not doing so would make them
my fault]. It helped. I'm simply suggesting you do the same. Your choice.

I have comcast blast internet for my man cave and rcn for the rest of the house. I have seen very little lag in those three games. This is the least amount of lag I have seen in a call of duty. Battlefield will get laggy occasionally, but that is something
    to do with EA.

Didn't bother with CoD, Titanfall had very little issues for me, and BF used to have some problems, but the latest update fixed or certainly improved a lot of issues, it's fun again.

If the game session I had last night was any indicator, BF4 is finally awesome (without all of the bugs and stuff) and is worth getting now (or picking back up) if you haven't already done so. Please do, I need more BF4 friends! ;)

Ping and lag problems is usually the players fault, also it has very little to do with speed of broadband a person has.I know someone who has 80Mb connection, and yet he has bad ping problems because his line goes through a clump of trees, which causes intermittent
    earthing.
