  1. 80GB MSIXVC File.

Since the last thread I was getting support in was closed (Brad...), I'm starting a new one. I'm going to give all the details I can, and keep it clean & clear to read.

I had an issue with my PC a few months back. I decided to do a system restore. It fixed my problem, but it removed Gears 5, and with that came the MSIXVC issue everyone seems to run into. I didn't realize I had the problem until I noticed I was missing
an extra 70GB+ SDD space and went looking for the cause.

The game's file is inside of the System Volume Information folder. Its 80GB, and inside of the MSIXVC sub-folder. That's where the problem is.

The full path to the file is (C:\System Volume Information\SystemRestore\AppxStaging\Program Files\WindowsApps\MSIXVC)

No matter what I do (removing inheritance, giving myself ownership / admin) I can't seem to delete the file / folder. I tried launching in Safe Mode as someone had success with that, I didn't. I tried all the things you
find on sites, none of them work for me.

I asked in another thread that got closed (cough Brad cough), but the suggestions didn't help. I'm thankful for the replies, but useless.

I want to know the fix for this. I cannot be bothered to reset my drive. That's doing too much as it's my OS drive, not an external.

The user I was receiving help from fixed their issue, but I did what they did, and it wasn't the same for me. I have no clue what to do. I want those 80GB's.

I even tried using a 3rd-party software that is mainly (from what I know) used to remove excess files that are redundantly caused by restores.

It didn't work. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very grateful for the help! Thanks!

    :)

You could also try using CMD to delete the file or folder with the DEL or DELTREE commands. So you could say this for example: del C:\System Volume Information\SystemRestore\AppxStaging\Program Files\WindowsApps\MSIXVC
(specifying the files extension at the end, I. E. MSIXVC.iso or whatever the extension is). You could also type
del /? to get more info on different types of deletions.

I'm sorry for the late reply!

I tried both of what you suggested and it didn't change anything. The files are still there, and I still, sadly, have only 10GB remaining on my SSD.

Are there any other suggestions that you can think of besides refactoring my SSD as that's a no-go in this situation.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the size of my restore was at default; 4% or 9GB.

I tried all of them, yes. It doesn't matter, though. The robocopy suggestion worked. Oh. My. Lord. I can't believe how easy that was.

It took a bit to work as I didn't know you needed to put "" around the path you wanted to delete, but hey, I'm 80GB freer! I can't thank you enough for that. I thought it was another "Restore to fix" type of issues. Honestly didn't expect it to work.

Thank you to everyone who tried helping. I really do appreciate it!

    Hi Joker

    Sorry, I was offline . . .

On the link below, in the 'Here's How' section, there is a reg file to download, if you merge that with your registry, that will add a new entry to the right click menu in File Explorer - Take Ownership

That should allow you to take ownership of that file and delete it . . .
