7.1 surround sound on apps vs games

Hi, I have a new Onkyo home theater receiver. I have 7.1 speakers hooked up. I know they are physically hooked up well as the music app from a phone and Halo 5 works great. Sound from all speakers. But if I use YouTube, Amazon Prime, Netflix ,etc. on the
Xbox One the sound only comes out of the front speakers. If I pick the same shows from my Amazon fire stick I at least get 5.1 but not 7.1 I have the Xbox set at bitstream, Dolby Atmos. I did have it at 7.1 uncompressed and that did no better. At least
with the Atmos setting I do see the Dolby setting light up on the amp. I might try using the optical cable but I don't see why I should have to with HDMI going straight into the amp.

    Any help appreciated,

    Peter

    :)

Xbox 360 Backwards Compatible games not outputting 7.1 audio from HDMI

    Hey there,

The Xbox 360 console doesn't support 7.1 surround, only 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS. Due to this, it is normal that backward compatible games are outputting 5.1 surround. On your Xbox 360 setup, it sounds you have it set up with Pro Logic IIx to simulate 7.1
surround sound, but the Xbox 360 console doesn't support true 7.1 surround sound.

Hope this helps clear it up.

    Pioneer receiver!!

There is surround sound for Xbox One games there is just no Dolby surround at the moment.

Currently you have uncompressed 5.1 & 7.1 and DTS.

    7.1 surround sound

I can confirm that the Xbox one happily runs 7.1 And also the new DTS format too.

    7.1 surround sound

Just read that Dolby is not supported via old headsets yet which is a bit crap. It's coming in an update. But I'm sure they said 5.1 is via HDMI. Maybe even 7.1.
