Surface revenue increased $1.3 billion or 157%...
Anyone talking about percentages that go higher than 100% is talking out of their butt because it shows that they don't understand how percentages work. 6 million+ ;)

2. 157% just means it made over double what it did last year say it made 10 last year and 25 this that would be a increase of 150%

As long as xbox doesnt losses mad amounts of money it stays . Heck the surface tablet was in the red for 2 years this years the frist time it made a profit. You guys keep forgeting about the OG xbox it loss lots of money. MS isnt Sony they can cover money
they losses. Also the new CEO know the importants of the XBOX brand under MS.

GG - I wasn't putting Microsoft down. The post above stated

"I wonder how much of it MS take in as a profit."

On the Xbox, They don't take in a profit, that has been known for years.

It is the rest they take in, in profit, and it subsidises Xbox.com

I put at the bottom, They are doing just fine everywhere else.

Which is good, because you won't see them dropping out of the console market, regardless of how many have been sold, and any non-profits from the Xbox Division

5. Cheesy, you're wrong. 157% isn't double at all. It's only 1.57 x the original 100%, which is my point. Once you go over 100%, which equals the whole amount, you don't need percentages at all! At that point it becomes a simple matter of multiplication. Going
over 100% just over-complicates things unnecessarily.

Hairy, MS themselves said that they were making a profit on EVERY single Xbox One console sold. Also, for the record, I'm not looking at previous consoles or the company as a whole, just at the Xbox One sales itself.

6. GG. They went on record to say they were making a profit on every console sold. Yes. At the initial Launch. When they were quoted as saying an Xbox One cost $471 to make. How much is a Kinect Bundle cost now. I know i can get a Xbox Kinect and AC Unity Bundle
for $449. And that includes a $50 game. So, by all rights they are probably now losing money on them

There has been price drop after price drop.

Also. it does not matter if you make $17 on each console sold, If it cost $23 in R&D to original make and design those consoles.

If you are looking at Xbox One sales, Just take this one part - Xbox Platform cost of revenue increased $2.1 billion or 72%, due mainly to higher volumes of consoles sold and
higher costs associated with Xbox One.

Next year will be the test, When obviously, R&D should be making as much of a dent in Costs, and revenue should be up from Xbox One's sold, and revenue from games, apps and Gold

M has like $172billion in assets from Wikipedia under Microsoft search it listed their 2014 stats. So $2billion on Minecraft is probably nothing for them and it was probably a good move since millions play the game. As for the 6 million+, that is a successful
figure for a console who will not turn 1 year old until 22/11/2014. When I got Xbox 1 day 1, only 2 of my friends had it. Today, about 15 of my friends from 360 have it now.

This is just splitting hairs IMO. Using that logic, I could say the same about going under 100%. I don't need percentages at all to say 57% is a simple matter of multiplying the
whole amount x .57.

It ends up being a matter of preference. Does one prefer to use percentages or not, no less, no more. Of course, if you really wanted to over complicate things, you'd use percentages
for anything under 'the whole amount' and then switch to not using it after you've gone over...

9. I know it is Smiley.

Beating your previous Generations Launch, considering everything that happened, Is a success in itself, and i am glad that Microsoft are doing well, Financially, as well as with games.

Because i for one, would never want to see the console market become a one horse race....

11. 6 million sold is good even though the competition is selling twice as much. And really guys who cares? As long as it's not a complete flop there's nothing to worry about. Sales numbers mean nothing. When I only owned a PS4, the fact that it was selling
more didn't make it the better console. In fact, that's really all I held on to for a while. My thought process was "It's selling so well, it means I made the right choice." But was I enjoying it? Not as much as it was selling.

The Wii outsold the 360 and PS3, yet it was the console I spent less time on.

They lost money on the Xbox Side of their company.

According to many articles, which you can all Google any time you want. Revenue for the Xbox Brand was up to $1.7 billion, But costs were also up to $2.1 billion including R&D. According to a report they have to publish known as the 10k Report.

So that would count as a loss. But it is probably offset against Patents, and income on Patents.

apps.shareholder.com/.../viewerContent.aspx

10k Annual report above

From the report if you can't find it

Computing and Gaming Hardware

Computing and Gaming Hardware revenue increased $3.2 billion or 49%,
primarily due to higher revenue from the Xbox Platform and Surface. Xbox Platform revenue increased $1.7 billion or 34%, due mainly to sales of Xbox One, which was released in November 2013, offset in part by a decrease in sales of Xbox 360. We sold 11.7 million
Xbox consoles during fiscal year 2014 compared with 9.8 million Xbox consoles during fiscal year 2013. Surface revenue increased $1.3 billion or 157%, due mainly to a higher number of devices and accessories sold.

Computing and Gaming Hardware gross margin decreased slightly, due to a $3.2 billion or 59% increase in cost of revenue, offset in part by higher revenue.
Xbox Platform cost of revenue increased $2.1 billion or 72%, due mainly to higher volumes of consoles sold and higher costs associated with Xbox One. Surface cost of revenue increased $970 million or 51%, due mainly to a higher
number of devices and accessories sold, offset in part by a charge for Surface RT inventory adjustments of approximately $900 million in fiscal year 2013.

That being said, the company as a whole is doing rather well....

^^ I'm sure some of that money went to the retailers. They're not going to stock them and sell them for free. I wonder how much of it MS take in as a profit.
