£59.99 for watchdogs is a joke

It is dumb you have to pay that much but maybe you should go complain to your government too.

Watch_Dogs is also showing as £59.99 on the PS4 store as well, so this isn't just Microsoft pricing

Makes you wonder why digital pricing is so high on the consoles though. On Steam the regular edition is £39.99, with the Digital Deluxe being £44.99. Even EA's Origin is cheaper at £44.99 and £49.99 respectively.

 

@ZTROOPER - That's got to be one of the dumbest postings ever. Achievement Unlocked! It has NOTHING to do with our government.

A game a $60 would convert to around £40...and then after adding VAT we get to £48. Nothing to do with our government - and certainly not something they should be sticking their nose into. I think what most of us are doing - i.e. boycotting buying the
game at release, is the only thing that will fix this in the long term.

 

It's actually cheaper here to buy digitally. It's €74.99 in Gamestop and €69.99 for download. Too bad I don't like digital downloads.

 

I get 44.00 + 8.00 = 52.00, I'm sure there is some other fees we don't know about, so 59.99, isn't to far off.

I sold computer software that I designed in Canada, one time, what a nightmare. There was three fees that I had to pay, never again.

 

Make digital cheaper ......END of used games = more £ for publisher + cheaper games for us users ....win win .

As i said in another thread , I bought a used game yesterday ... was I the 2nd , 3rd or ???th person to own that game ...the publisher have seen the money from 1 sale .

If a game is £40 and I play it for 3 months , then sell it for £20 ,... I shall continue to do that , Every person that buys that disc after me .... is lost revenue to the publishers .

If digital copies were £25 - £30 ... I would do that.

Ps .. if digital copies use up 100' s of t/ b of bandwidth .and is more expensive than making and distributing discs ....

How come the Ps4, has indie and free to play titles for digital d/l ?.

 

Actually I was being generous to MS - there are currently $1.68 to the £1, hence $60 is £35.72, add VAT you get £42.86

I know MS have to price it to take into account currency variations - but pretty sure if you look over the past 20 years sterling has only dipped below $1.50 conversion a few times. So more than happy for MS/Publishers to use that as the rate - which still
means we're being ripped off.

With digital purchases there is ONLY VAT to consider - there are NO other taxes or rates applied by the UK government. Stop trying to make excuses - a rip-off is a rip-off...end of.

 

There is a a lot more to the story then just the taxes.

The price of day one digital is going to be the same as day one retail at least for the near future so you have to look at the regular retail price if your going to compare the US price to the UK.

They have to pay the import tax then they have to pay to import the games. Then when you move the game into the UK you have to start working in there currency

For example if the delivery truck driver in the US get's 12$ an hour and the truck driver in the UK also gets 12 an hour that 12$ US dollars just became worth 7.14 in the UK. It now cost them 20$ instead of the 12 to pay that guy.

Then take that across all the things needed to get the game to market and it jacks up the price. They work in US currency.

Still the point remains. Just why are those digital games so much more expensive than their PC counterparts.

 

PC games have been cheaper than console because PC gamers were thrown a "$10" bone when their games turned into licenses back in the day. That $10 discount exists in some markets, though here in the USA more and more, like Watch Dogs, are listing at the
same price as console - $59.99.

No point in comparing prices between the USA and the UK using Exchange Rate. That's not the basis for pricing. Purchase Power Parity determines those prices. That's not a figure you'll find on xe.com.

Why are they priced so high compared to retail? Blame retail forcing digital to stay higher to save their precious stores...

 

Consoles games are technically only as license as well if you buy them digitally, so to use your term, why aren't consoles throwing gamers a bone since they are only buying a license?

Are console, to use another of your terms, 'masses' easier to manipulate?

 

Bone was thrown years ago. Inflation I assume. As I mentioned, the $10 price difference has been going away on the PC side. Titanfall and Watch Dogs were both $59.99 across the board - PC or Console - in the USA.
