50Hz TV not fixed in UK

    Hi there,

The recent update added the 50hz option for correct viewing of UK TV services. Problem is that using it looks like total garbage due to an awful up-down "jiggle" that affects both the signal and the xbox menus (in the TV app only). I'm guessing the XBOX
doesn't perform the HDMI handshake correctly.

Is there any way to fix this? A full power down of the XBOX has not helped.

Equipment: XBOX ONE connected via HDMI to Samsung LM40M86 series TV. TV source is UK Sky HD box.

    :)

I have seen quite a few reports that it does work with the Sky HD box. Given the number of positive reviews thus far, I must go with 'normal' troubleshooting (sorry to advise).

What version of HDMI cables are you using?

What is the output of the STB (Sky TV box) (1080p, 720p,1080i)?

    High or low power setting?

    Surround sound enabled?

    -Cheers

Hi Hermes, sorry for slow reply, email notifications didn't seem to get sent.

I honestly have no idea about the cables, it's whatever came with the sky box and XBOX.

Sky is set to 1080p, surround sound on.

XBOX is is the "high power" or "always on" state, outputs at 1080p with Dolby digital 5.1.

As I mentioned, I not convinced the STB signal is a problem as even the menus the XBOX renders will jiggle when 50hz mode is enabled.

    Cheers

  6. I too am not convinced the STB is the issue either. However, I like proof. Here are some other things to narrow down (attempting to form a control).

    1. Swap HDMI cables (or new 1.4 high speed or 2.0's)

    2. Toggle native mode (a setting within the STB)

    3. Remove the AVR (Receiver)

    4. Turn off surround sound option within the STB and Xbox

    5. Try 720p (as a test)

Please be detailed as possible (when I send information "it does not work" does not give the engineering much to go off of). I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions.

    -Cheers

Hi Hermes, sorry again for extremely slow reply.

Having messed with all of the above (except for the cable thing, I'll need to get some more) nothing changes the issue. One thing I haven't tried yet is the old workaround of getting the whole Xbox to use 50Hz, not just TV.

As it seems I am in the minority with this issue I am beginning to suspect either faulty hardware in the XBOX or, more likely, that my TV can't deal with the signal the XBOX sends. I can confirm that the STB and the TV get along without the XBOX in the way
so it can handle 50Hz from the STB.

    Thanks again.

  8. 50Hz TV not fixed in UK

    Hi GlacialSpoon,

I had a similar situation but with TiVo connected, I did a hard reset on the xbox and it fixed the issue of menu jiggling.

With the 50hz setting for the TV I am definitely seeing an improvement but because the xbox seems to be locked at a specific resolution (for most 1080p) the TV signal can still get juddery, certainly noticeable when viewing sports and panning shots.

For me this issue is that the TiVo outputs at 1080i so the xbox seems to be converting that to 1080p, like you, if I have the TiVo plugged straight into the TV or through the A/V receiver everything looks fine and the TV displays correctly at 1080i not the
    1080p.

I don't think there is an issue with any of your equipment it's just that nobody really broadcasts a 1080p signal in the UK so we don't really get any benefit from having the xbox output at 1080p for TV. I think there needs to be a 1080i output option to
go with the 50hz on the xbox for everything to work properly and have the xbox auto detect the signal from the STB so it can switch as needed.

Not sure if that helps much, but hopefully the hard reset will sort your menus out.

    Hi "editor",

I have previously tried a hard reset (power cycle) but the issue remains. I will try a full shutdown and unplug. Was there any specific on/off status for your TV and TiVo as you did the reset?

    Cheers

Success! Although not in a way I expected.

Everything became good when I swapped the display output mode in the main settings from Auto Detect to HDMI. 50Hz mode now works as expected.

Thanks to Hermes and editor for speaking up.

    Now about that visible interlacing...

  11. That's great!

As you figured out, cycling through the display options often irons out those bugs.
