500 Gb Xbox 360 E (Newest Model) PSU Question

While the consol is on, the PSU sounds normal (silent), but when powered off it makes a barely noticeable very quiet high pitched buzzing sound that I can hardly hear but still gets annoying (I literally have to put my ear up to it to hear it, it's just
at a frequency that can travel through an entire room I guess... It's super quiet though) I'm not sure of anything is wrong because it only does this after I power down my console. I just bought my console today to replace my 5 year old console and want to
know if this is it being in sleep mode or something or if the PSU needs replaced, and if it does do I have to do it through Microsoft or will the retailer I bought it from replace it. I Literally bought it less than a day ago.

Definitely getting the 2 TB. Would never go for a 500 GB model that you can't upgrade the internal HD. The 500 GB Xbox One S reminds me of the 360 Arcade.

Hey there, I'm not sure how it works where you're from, but in Australia, by consumer law if the product is faulty the retailer has to give you a refund or remedy the situation. I suggest just contacting the retailer and seeing if they'll exchange it first.

 

Before I go through the trouble of getting a replacement for my brand new PSU, I just want to know if this quiet sound is normal when my 360 is powered off. Again, like I said, this sound is very quiet but noticeable in when my room is quiet.

 

My Xbox 360 E console doesn't make a sound when it's switched off. I even just put my head next to it for you. The only reason I think it would make a noise is if it had background downloads enabled and it was actually downloading content. I have that feature
switched off.

 

Its enabled for me because I have my cloud on. Come to think of it, I diddnt notice this until I enabled cloud storage. Il turn it off and check if I still hear it.

 

Ah, I don't have cloud storage on myself so it's very possible that's the reason. Let us know how you go.

 

I think I found our the problem, the sound from my fan is resonating through my PSU. Im going to double check this theory though.

Hey there, the psu shouldn't really make a audible sound while turned off but all electrical items will give off a sound, and even with the xbox off a small amount of power is going through it to light the led on it as well as to the xbox (or it wouldn't
know the power button was being pressed) this power is a super low voltage that the psu has to reduce your 240v-110v (depending were you live) and its this reduction that the noise is coming from, if you are worried about it though then it would be up to the
store to replace it but my advice would be not to worry maybe try another socket as it may reduce the noice a little

 

Il try a socket directly from the wall, but I have my xbone plugged into the same strip (its not a cheap power strip either by the way) and it is silent when powered off. I did try disabling cloud storage and background downloads and that didn't work wither.
And my old 360 elite's PSU didn't do this either.

 

Okay so here is the conclusion. I called BestBuy, they said everything in their store is serial coded so i'd have to return my entire console and get a new one in order to fix the issue, and I have already license transferred all my stuff to my new console,
so I can not do that. If I try to get a new one from Microsoft, it will probably take them a month to get it to me. I tried plugging it directly into the wall, the sound is still there. I moved the PSU behind my TV, I cant hear the sound but I can still detect
the frequency the sound emits because it bounces off the wall behind my TV.

Do you think if I go to BestBuy and explain my situation, they'll just replace the PSU because I really dont see why they cant just get me a new PSU and send the faulty one back to MS. This is really starting to get frustrating, and this annoying sound only
persists when my console is powered off for some odd reason, and like I said, it is completely silent when it is powered on. Can anyone tell me how I can get Microsoft to send me a new one, or better yet, can I get an official response from someone from the
Support Team.

I didn't pay 250 USD just to get a faulty PSU that I am unable to replace w/o returning my console and loosing the licenses to all of my downloaded games for 6 months.

 

Ok, I'm of the opinion to just return it, as Tat said there would be a small amount of electricity going through it, but from my experience not enough to make any audible sound.

They might even be able to let you do another license transfer before the 4 month period if you explain your situation to them and then do the bestbuy return.
