  1. 500 GB Media Hard Drive disappeared from my storage device list

All of a sudden, my additional hard drive went missing. It was showing before, but now just disappeared. I tried removing and adding multiple times. I have seen posts about formatting it, but I cannot because it does not even show up in my list of
storage devices. I just noticed it was missing when I went to play Destiny for the first time. The game asked to update the system. Then, my system was giving me a message that I need 20GB hard drive to play. I knew I had 500GB so I was not sure why it was
telling me I did not have space. When I went to look at the storage devices, I noticed the hard drive was missing. I am not sure if Destiny and the update was the cause because I cannot honestly say if the hard drive was still showing before I tried to play.
The last time I used the hard drive was probably about 3 weeks ago. I tried removing all the past updates. Still no luck. I just bought both the Xbox 360 and hard drive in December.

    :)

    External Hard Drive Not Formatting

I just bought a 500 gb external hard drive with a USB 3.0 and connected to my Xbox one. It detects it but only as a media storage device, it doesn't ask me if I want to format, what should I do?

  3. All my games are gone

After the recent update, all my games have disappeared from my external hard drive. In system setting storage, it list the external hard drive and says 242.3 GB of 2.8tb free. But under my games and apps it shows no games on the external hard drive only
the games on the internal hard drive.

500 GB Media Hard Drive disappeared from my storage device list

    Hi there,

not sure if it is possible, but can you try that hard drive on a different 360 console or a different hard drive on your 360 console, to see if it will work there. This is to determine if the hard drive or the console are causing this issue.

If you know what part is causing the issue then you can set up a replacement/repair for that part since it does sound like a hardware issue and not anything software related.

If you have found out what part is causing the problem then you should be able to set up a service request via
http://myservice.xbox.com since you just bought them both should still be in warranty, but that same link will show it when the device is registered.

    external xbox storage

For an external storage drive to save games and apps from Xbox One, it must meet the following requirements:

    • It uses a USB 3.0 connection. If you’re using a USB hub, the hub must also be USB 3.0 or later.
    • It has 128 GB or larger storage capacity.
    • It has a partition. Typically, drives come with a preformatted partition. For more info about partitioning an external hard drive, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.
    • No more than three storage devices are connected to the console at the same time.

Devices that don’t meet these requirements will be treated as media storage, such as for music or video.

USB Flash Drive doesn't work on xbox one s

Thanks for replying although the website you've sent me doesn't really talk about USB's.
    Excerpt from link..

To use external storage with Xbox games and apps, your hard drive must:

    • Hold 128 GB or more
    • Connect via USB 3.0/3.1
When you first connect, Xbox will prompt you to format your device. You can use it for Xbox games and apps, or for personal media such as pictures, music, and video. (Xbox will treat devices that don’t meet the above requirements as media storage.)

If your Xbox doesn’t recognise your external drive, see:
