$50.00 season passes are awesome...

Many a time a used purchase has made me buy into a sequel or in the case of AC a franchise, bought every single game after I tried a used AC2, same with Bioshock and Dead Space. I was never going to buy any of the first games of those series new. Only
decided to take punts when they were cheap enough. I think they all made enough subsequent new sales from the interest I gained to knock that argument out in my case anyway. Even if there's no sequel I may well buy a new game from the same developer if
I like a used title I gambled on, shouldn't imagine I'm the only one.

 

I was actually thinking along the same lines as Back Lot Basher, there was huge speculation that prices would go up during the current generation and we haven't really seen a shift from the release prices of $60 - $90 (over here at least), the increase has
been the 'additional content' which seems to be a sneaky way of raising prices without turning you off the game initially.

Batman Arkham Knight still came with a free character, you could get Harley Quinn or Batgirl depending on what store had the exclusive, so again, their standard practices didn't really change except for the increase in there additional content.

I also agree with Blue Illusion, the inconsistency of $ per content is frustrating, games like The Witcher 3 I fully believe the DLC is additional content because the main game was so freaking huge and it's really value for money, but then a season pass
for say Forza 5 got you some cars.... Which should have been in the main game, imo.

I personally love DLC, I love going back into a game I've really enjoyed and getting to play it more, I'm just getting so sick of this pricing and it has really made me step back and think. Can I hold out to play this cheaper with all content?

 

Everquest +. 1 year sub = $240.

Battlefront = $ 110 (playable. until EA. shut. down. servers).

Not. really expensive,as. long. as. you play and enjoy it.....

 

Bang on DA! I'm certainly more selective of what DLC I buy. I was genuinely surprised when I saw the Witcher expansion was only £7.99 here, I have been avoiding news about it as much as possible and going by the standard pruces lateley I was expecting
£15 to £19.99!

 

It astonishes me how people fall for media spin and say idiotic things like "2nd hand sales hurt developers".

Firstly, they can only hurt Publishers since developers commission the developers to develop the game and pay them for doing so.

Secondly, games, like most goods, are sold to make a profit. And they do that when they are sold to the retailer.

So once the retailer takes the game off the Publisher, that's ALL the costs paid for.

A 2nd hand game is a copy of the game that the Publisher has already been paid for.

Publishers want to make money.

It used to be they made money by making great games.

Unfortunately nowadays too many are experimenting with underhand tactics to see just how much money they can take us for.

That's why you're being sold pieces of the actual games instead of the full games themselves and it's getting really annoying now.

Don't be so quick to write off voting with your wallet either.

When "Dead Space 3" failed to rake in the millions they expected with micro-transactions the Montreal arm of Visceral was closed.

Not because the game failed to make a profit. Because it failed to hit projections.

So if you're getting fed up... don't buy them.

 

Visceral Montreal was working on Army of Two: Devil's Cartel, not Dead Space 3. When it went Gold the layoffs began. Coupla mobile divisions died the same day. Then the game launched in March the following month. It wasn't games underperforming or not meeting
sales expectations that killed that studio. Nothing would have saved it.

It was just EA disappearing another studio they'd gorged on. I reckon the rest of Visceral will be gone soon too. It's lasted longer than most and Hardline did all right. But EA must be planning some elaborate murder for it.

The corporate EA bigwigs no doubt put the Visceral Montreal scalp on display next to the scalps of Westwood, Mythic, Phenomic, Maxis, Black Box Games, Bullfrog, Pandemic etc etc etc. EA is a studio serial killer. lol

I agree though that voting with the wallet works. Publishers fear it. Especially in the first week of a game's life, and *especially* the weeks before with pre-orders. Such a bizarre thing, pre-orders, IMO. It's so weird that pre-ordering has been normalised
over the past decade or so.

 

Games have gotten much more expensive this gen. Games like DA:I are €79.99 at release. That's Gamestop though and they suck. I wouldn't buy a game from there if my life depended on it. Games are on average 10 to 20 euro more this gen. That's most likely
due to G'S and their over inflated prices. On top of that they don't change with currencies like they do with sterling at least.

Destiny as the best thing since sliced bread.....

 

No matter how you feel about it a year after it's release you still have millions of players spanking it on a regular basis.

It delivers a great experience for the people playing it and the add-ons really enhance that experience.

Too many dummies let the internet tell them what to think.

The sheer number of people still playing and enjoying "Destiny" flies in the face of those people who avoided it for no other reason that they read on the internet that all the content could have been released in one but was deliberately withheld.

Even if that was the case Bungie have shown us how to do that and entertain fans instead of annoying them.

"Destiny" is a lot like "Oblivion".

Old School "Morrowind" fans balked at the prospect of random generated loot because they wanted to play the way they were used to (loot a shopping list of locations early on and become god-like at level 8).

Just like "Destiny" moaners they avoided "Oblivion" after reading what someone else told them the game was like and wrote it off without even playing it and ended up missing a brilliant game in the process.

"Destiny"'s add ons had sweeping affects on play and extended the life of the game.

Other games are offering Season Passes so they can throw you a level, some extra characters and a pile of skins.

 

I don't care how many people are still playing it Az, How you can defend a game where an original full price buyer such as myself has his legitimately purchased full price retail game essentially nerfed unless I buy the full game AGAIN with DLC or I pay
the SAME PRICE for just the DLC is an indication of your hypocrisy given your stance on other DLC that adds to a game without altering the vanilla product.

 

It's still a great game but what they have done really is shady.

They haven't nerfed the original "Destiny".

They re-did the stats. The original "Destiny" plays like it always has. Gjallahorn is still one of the best weapons in the base game.

However it is pretty underhand how they transformed the original game into a reminder that the better stuff exists and throw it in your face like "Neverwinter Nights" and its shops in the Imperial City.

They are pressuring you to purchase their DLC and they're being jerks about it at the same time because you could argue they are declaring the game you bought... well you only rented that gameworld for a year and now you've got to either pay up for another
year... or do without.

For the people enjoying how the DLC is extending their gameplay it's easy to overlook how the people who didn't upgrade have been stiffed.

It's still a great game even if you're not having a good time but they're only fostering a deep distrust of Activision and Bungie for the future which will in the long term damage their brand.

We all made so much fun of the Wii U. Do their games have this sort of problem?

Bet they're the ones laughing now.

 

From what the players in the Destiny thread have said the Vanilla game is pretty much pointless now and some strikes are no longer playable. I wouldn't have a problem with reasonably priced DLC, but they way they have done this is unforgivable. I guess
you were happy to overlook your "principles" to play, your choice and fair enough.

 

I wouldnt touch Destiny with a 10 foot pole. That game and it's DLC practices are atrocious.

 

There's another ignorant statement.

"Destiny"'s DLC has continuously injected new life into the game.

It prolongs the experience and adds more content as well as evolving the way you play.

That's not the same as "Buy the Season Pass and you can play as a Warlock and a year later we'll let you download the Hunter class".

Also despite what the internet told Genchy none of the strikes have been removed from "Destiny" with the additions of the DLC. Just like when it released over a year ago and people were telling us that the level cap was 20... once again people are taking
stuff they read on the internet as fact... and getting it wrong.

If you don't care for "Destiny's" DLC then don't buy it but know what you're talking about before you write it off.

Again, if you don't care for it don't buy it. That's the only way these companies are going to learn.
