5 dollar gift card not being redeemed

Hello

I have been playing on xbox today and I received a 5 dollar gift card from xbox. Even though my xbox live account and my xbox location is set in the US I'm not is the Us. Did that because my country doesn't show up as a option. Anyway I tried to redeem the
gift card and it said "This code is for another region." I can understand why I said that so this time I tried it with a VPN set to the US and it still gave me the same message.

I'm not really worried or complaining but is there any way I can still redeem it and find out what's wrong?

I'm not sure if this is true for everyone still, but my gift card currently isnt redeemable so they may still be having an issue, but hopefully it's working for others now

I have found my answer. It turns out that Microsoft gave me a £5 and not $5. I'm not really sure why they did that since the only thing I have as UK is my language every thing else is US. I just changed my location and restarted my console and I got the
money
