5.1 Surround Sound - HDMI

i have very similar problem. with uk virgin Tivo on hdmi to xbone and hdmi from that to pioneer vsx821 a/v reciever. The xbone plays blu-ray and game sound in either dts or dolby pro but will not play tivo. Passes muffled speech to all three front speakers
and no surround or sub . I've tried every combination of settings. It's on bitstream out and dts now. I also get red lines on lighter parts of the picture. TV is a sony bravia 3d kd55x900b. If I pass tivo direct to av it's fine. I've resorted to plugging all
units into the TV and using optical out to the A/V reciever to get surround but would like to use the xbone as a central unit with speech control etc. I've worked through all the advice on here and followed all the instructions. conclusion is that pass thru
is not decoding proberly even after latest update.

:)

Surround Sound Complications

Hello Community,

I would like to consider myself a Techie but when I setup my Xbox One I got for a present I only ran into frustration and issues.

Equipment & Setup:

Xbox One plugged into a Sony Receiver via HDMI. Receiver plugged into TV via HDMI cable.

Xbox One set to 5.1 uncompressed (as suggested via researching this online). Receiver states 3/2.1 PCM - I set it to PLII Movie, thus 5.1 Surround Sound.

Issue:

Hulu app will not play 5.1 surround sound, only FL & FR speakers.

Previews on a Blu-Ray wouldn't play 5.1 surround sound but the actual movie would.

Pandora will only play through FL & FR speakers, no sub.

Netflix will play 5.1 surround sound. Games will play 5.1 surround sound.

Confusion:

Why are some items playing surround sound and others are not? My previous console had no issues playing Hulu at 5.1 surround sound with same HDMI setup. My other devices I'm using on the receiver are playing 5.1 surround sound just fine.

Seeking help with this. I would hate to return the Xbox One due to something as trivial as Audio. Especially since a device as simple as my Chromcast and PS3 had no issues whatsoever. But if I can't solve this within the week I will have to return for a
PS4.

Thank you ahead of time for your help and support with this,

Tom

HDMI 5.1 surround sound
You will only get Quadraphonic 4.1, out of the Logitech X540 Setup, as it uses three 3.5mm headphones jacks to connect to your computer Audio Outputs (L/R Rear [Black], Center [Orange], L/R Front [Green])
I don't understand why this argument has gone off tangent discussing the definition of "Quadraphonic" when it's not even relevant. In this initial post you mention that the orange input only carries the centre signal, which is incorrect, and don't
mention the subwoofer yet sum things up to equal a 4.1 signal. The orange jack carries centre/sub: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_card#Color_codes

Further discussion on the topic of quadraphonic sound is useless and not pertinent to the original question. Also, it was long ago determined that what the OP inquired about could not be done, so there's no need for this thread to continue.

You keep arguing & derailing the thread... So how is it me derailing a thread when you all argue & I have to constantly repeat what I say, so it sinks into your thick heads...

HDMI 5.1 surround sound
As there are multiple types of Quadraphonic Sound....
While there were several encoding techniques, the sources were all the same - four discrete audio channels.
As I have explained before & as i've mentioned, I
use Quadraphonic Stereo Sound for my "DJ" Equipment...
This is gibberish.
One type is Quadraphonic Digital Surround 4.0/4.1 & there is Quadraphonic Stereo, which is analogue & uses two Stereophonic sources to create Quadraphonic Sound with "4
Speakers" surrounding you, with or without a sub (4.0/4.1)... My amps link, so I can go higher than 10.2 Surround on my setup..
And more gibberish.

Quadraphonic sound is not "created" from a stereo source. It's four discrete channels. It has a very specific meaning when it comes to discussing audio. Your rambling posts are butchering that meaning.

Nano, I pray you are just trolling but if you are even remotely convinced you might have the slightest clue what you are saying, seek drug counseling.

.

Quadraphonic audio is very very different from what you are gurgling about.

HDMI 5.1 surround sound
Delentheus has posted a link to a Logitech 5.1 Adapter that the Logitech X540 can utilise for all the 3.5mm jacks (FL/R - Center - RL/R) for the standard setup connection that a PC sound card would use to output 5.1 to the Logitech
X540...
It's a passive device. The X-540 has an active Matrix ability. There's no reason to suggest that adapter when the end result would be worse than letting the control unit fake it.
So move on already & stop arguing...
There's nothing
to "argue". A small passive adapter is useful where there's no active processing, but there is an active option so there's no reason to use it.

You are arguing over something you don't even understand when it's clearly explained to you...
Nothing you have said about Quadraphonic sound is clear.
Dual Stereo is also "Quadraphonic Stereo" (Front Stereo & Rear Stereo = 4 Speakers
of sound)... Add a sub (or Two) to either of the Stereo sources and you will have Quadraphonic Stereo 4.1 or 4.2....
This is gibberish.
Dolby 4.0 or 4.1 is also Quadraphonic Sound too & uses a discrete sub channel for 4.1...
This is also
gibberish.
