    5.1 Optical Audio Output broken

In games like Forza Horizon, I get 5.1 audio just fine. But in all other instances of audio output, I only get stereo? BlueRay is only stereo, apps like Grove and Spotify are only stereo. YouTube Dolby 5.1 Test is only stereo. I use an Optical cable to plug
the output of the Xbox One to my Samsung Home Cinema 5.1 system. I have enable Optical Digital Surround in Xbox One Settings.

At this point, I am clueless as to what to try out next 5.1 Optical Audio Output broken :(

    360E + Tritton Pro+ Headset QUESTION

So i picked up the 360E. We all know the console is lacking the optical port , So since my TV has optical I decided to pick up the tritton pro+ headset for use with BF4 .

    Info.

360E console connected to tv via HDMI

    Question.

I believe the TV only outputs stereo. I know the xbox outputs 5.1 So how do I get 5.1 to my headset? will a HDMI to OPTICAL AUDIO converter work for 5.1?

Will the will xbox audio be sent through my tv @ 5.1 and enter the decoder as 5.1?

How do I get 5.1 from the xbox 360E??

any help would be VERY AWESOME

    HDMI Dobly Digital is uneven.

I doubt you'll get true 5.1 sound using the red and white cable as they are only stereo. Does your sound system have an optical audio input that you could connect the optical audio output of the console or tv to at all?

I just comment on bluray and optical discs(but might be valid of online streaming as well).

There are usually many audio options for media itself - you might have 5.1 on some sources and not others - and both 5.1 and stereo as well.

And on some stereo is default - and you have to set to use 5.1 etc - it might be there on disc.

I stopped using Xbox for media, does not compare to standalone media players.

All standalone have many settings I never saw in Xbox - like how 5.1 are to be mixed to stereo or output as it is etc.

You should always be able to get audio everywhere on all channels if proper settings exist -as they do on standalone players.

Did you look for settings like that?

Stereo signal in a 5.1 stream

    Hi Darkstar,

The Xbox is working 100% as it should be. If the Xbox source signal is 5.1 i.e a game, then the audio stream to the receiver is 5.1 and the receiver will output 5.1 audio to the speakers. However if the Xbox audio source signal is 2.0 i.e music, then the
stream to the receiver is 2.0 and the receiver will not magically output 5.1 audio to the speakers.

This situation will happen for HDMI or optical using DTS or Dolby decoding etc. The Xbox will not simulate 2.0 up to 5.1. You will need to use one of the surround effects (simulation) on your receiver to scale the 2.0 audio to 5.1 audio. Sorry its not what
you want to hear, but this is how it works :)

5.1 Uncompressed audio via HDMI connection

It isn't possible for any TV to pass through uncompressed 5.1 audio but they can pass through Dolby Digital 5.1 format which is compressed.

What you need to do is tell the Xbox to output Bitstream audio via HDMI and set the Bitstream format to Dolby Digital. If you do this your TV will be able to send the 5.1 surround audio to your soundbar via its optical cable.
