4TB Seagate causing games to run inefficiently. I've tried everything that I could find ...

I have a portable 4TB Seagate external connected to my Xbox One. I had no issues connecting or getting it detected (which I see are common issues). I was able to connect it and get games installed on moved over to it with no issues, but when running most
games I have performance issues, such as: Warriors Orochi Ultimate freezing consistently, The Banner Saga's cutscenes freezing and staggering, Thief running at unplayable frame rates, and other games having issues with cutscenes loading. I've not tested all
of my games, these just so happen to be the ones I'm playing currently. I've tried reformatting the drive, buying new cables, clearing the Xbox cache, and using different USB ports. I don't know what else to do.

    :)

    External drive for Xbox one

I'm using the Seagate one as well.

The one on Amazon spins at 7200rpm.

Be careful because PC World sell a Seagate 4TB that runs at a lower speed.

4TB will keep you going for a long time.

What is the model of your 4TB external drive? While external drives can fit the required specs of being used as a drive for game loading (256GB or more, USB 3.0), some drives are built simply for backup storage (slow speed, infrequent access) or for high
performance applications (fast speed, frequent access).

Have you also tried moving a game from the external and have it installed on the internal Xbox hard drive to see if you get the same symptoms of poor performance?

  7. I have a 5TB Seagate External HDD and I can run most of my games off of it. That said, games that are "heavy" on the loading/processing can start to function poorly, and Fallout 4 (if run from an External HDD) will crash occasionally.

If you're having serious issues, download everything to your External HDD initially, then just install whichever games you want to play to your internal until you're done with them.

I've had to install Fallout 4, The Elder Scrolls Online, Elite : Dangerous and Metal Gear Solid V to my Internal HDD, but some games will work fine from the External (I run Warframe and all of my backwards compatible games from it).

Either way, none of this would be necessary if Microsoft just included a reasonably sized internal HDD from the outset. Seriously, when I heard about the 500GB model, I facepalmed. For a company that made it's name in computing, it sure displayed a shocking
lack of knowledge regarding necessary memory space for this generation.

Maybe I'll see if I can find a 7200rpm drive and try that out when I can. The uninstalling and reinstalling does not sound glamourous at all but I guess I'll do that in the meantime. Thanks.
