4k with a "Graphics Amplifier"! Lol.

Rumor is the HDMI cable that came with the Xbox One is a 4K capable cable, and all they have to do is patch it to unlock it. Don't get me wrong I own a PS4 as well but am not buying a whole new system just for this.

There are some I would want left out. I wouldn't mind seeing a bundle or two released with some touched up graphics and resolution.

I bought a $100 HDMI cable for my 4K tv that has no 4K broadcasting (I changed my Netflix 4K package back to a standard HD because the shows are lacking and they want $12/month for 4k).... so bring it on MS!

 

4K is already here and Sony wants to have all its games to hit no less than 60 fps, including VR. So devs say they need more power in order to hit such marks, and Sony. From YT vids etc I'ved viewed. Is looking to do a more powerful PS4 that some are calling
the PS4.5

As I have yet to optain a PS4, based on what i read, I for one will hold off until after E3.

Don't you have to have a tv or monitor capable of 4k? What good is a console capable of 4k if your tv is only 1080?

 

Err, no, it won't be like that. The Alienware laptop in the article has its own external PCIe 3.0 port which is designed for the graphics data transfer speeds that current high end PC graphics require to function. It's only available on one of those laptops,
so you can't turn any old low end laptop into a powerful gaming machine.

Xbox One and PS4 only use USB 3.0. This is pretty quick but no where near good enough for an external graphics card. If there is ever going to be an 'upgrade' path for the current generation of consoles it won't be via some kind of hardware add on.

The only way Microsoft and Sony could upgrade their consoles is to release newer more powerful systems - which essentially means better CPU and GPU hardware inside the box. These newer machines would play all older games, but newer games would be able to utilise
the extra power to generate better graphics. Seems great in theory, but would be a major headache for game developers in practice.

 

How much would this system cost though?

To do 4k at 60fps on the PC is going to cost you a minimum of $2000, and that if if you buy used.

Would people really be willing to pay anywhere near that price for a console?

 

^^^^, you're late Microsoft already got 4k ,it's called " put all Xbox one exclusives on PC"

 

I don't think they'd aim for 60fps simply because most tv's can't do it. You're more likely to see 4k at 20-25fps, then you'd still need the equivalent of a GTX 980 or similar AMD card, a 980 is around the £400 mark on its own.

VR is a different story because it isn't 4k.

Why? That was a waste of about $90. Sounds like someone fooled you pretty good! You know all HDMI cables produce the exact same quality (they either work or they don't, there is no in between), and you can find them on amazon for about $10, right?

 

I run dual r390's, there is no way either platform is giving you 4k at any reasonable (for a console) price point, and as obsessive pointed out certainly not through usb.

Sony have a 60 fps limit on the vr to help with tracking and jitter, they use reprojection to bump it up to 120 fps which is why psvr has a 120hz oled.

 

Intel and AMD can do 4K on the dirty dirt cheap for consoles.

Unlike PC, consoles sell, not only right out the gate, but by the millions every year.

When that happens, TV manufactures will also proudce top of the line 4K TV's as well. Combined, all these companies will then have created a trend that could prove to be very profitable in an otherwise stagnet world economy.

I paid over 5k back in 98 for a Compaq 5190 pc, with AMD K-6, 2 running a 3DFX Monster Fusion GPX Card just to play Star Wars Rogue Squarden. These days an off the shelf Dell Laptop could run that game at a fraction of the cost.

 

I have cable tv, netflix etc etc etc, and most channels are on 720p. I really don't care about xb1/ps4 going 4k, to me it's like curved screens and 3d, not really interested and I don't want to see peoples blackheads.
