    4k video support

I have a Samsung UE65JS8505 4k TV. Does the 1080 video limit on the Xbox in any way influence or limit the upscaling of live TV signals, or will the xbox put a 1080 cap on that as well?

Will the xbox one Plex app be able to show 4k content or is that too limited to 1080?

    :)

Does Xbox One X support 4K video files?

    Hi all,

I was just wondering if the Xbox One X fully supports 4K video files through the Media Player app.

I know the S did not support 4K video files, but the PS4 Pro and standalone 4K players do.

Does the Xbox One X now support 4K video file playback?

    thanks.

In theory it will support 4k video, but they never said it would play 4k games.

    4k video support

    Hi ollie56,

Right now the Xbox One is only capable of 1080. That is VERY likely to change as it's ports are rated for 4k. There is no ETA on this, and if you would like the feature added I would suggest upvoting one of the threads at

So it actually stops the tv from upscaling? Why? The Xbox merely adds a GUI and functionality on top of tv transmissions - why will it intervene with how the tv receives those signals? I can understand that it does not support it's own video services in
4k as that requires processing but I really didn't think lack of 4k support would mean it would reduce the value of other 4 k ready devices.. That's some living room hub...

  6. I believe Hydro was only stating that the apps and games, as of know have a limit of 1080p. Meaning that the Xbox One itself will not generate, via an App, nor pass through a 4k signal. Hopefully this will change soon, hence voting at feedback.xbox.com
. Having stated that any signal your TV receives it should scale it to the native screen resolution of your TV. So if the Xbox sends a 1080p signal to your TV, the TV will upconvert it to the the native 4k resolution. Now granted it is not a true 4k signal
as it only has the 1080p signal at its base. I have a Vizio 4k TV and this is true for my Xbox and Bluray player, they only transmit a 1080p signal but the TV will upscale it to the Vizio's panel resolution of 4k.

Hope this helps and I didn't confuse the issue further.

Thanks, crystal clear 4k video support :)

"...the Xbox One itself will not generate, via an App, nor pass through a 4k signal. Hopefully this will change soon, hence voting at feedback.xbox.com". Come on, do you really believe that yourself?

10% of US households will have 4k tvs in 2016 and this number will rise very quickly so why hasn't MS launched such a great competetive advantage for it's machine which is supposed to be the media hub of our living rooms? Hardware limitations? Very likely.
Whatever it is 4k support will probably be launched in a console upgrade or next gen. MS keeps quiet to capitalize on current gen and hope people forget the fact they actually promised 4k video compatibility at launch.
