4K UHD vs 1080p setting option

So finally got my xbox one setup to my receiver to push 4k/hdr10. My question is should I leave the resolution on the Xbox one x set to 4K UHD, or 1080p (with allow 4k & allow HDR10 on). My understanding is the latter is better if you play standard 1080p
blu ray a lot so the xbox one x can upscale 1080p to 4k more easily. Some users have reported that leaving the resolution settjng solely on 4k UHD can interfere with the 1080p upscaling feature somewhat. Any opinions or recommendations on this? Thanks in advance.

    :)

If i leave it on 1080p and put in a 4k movie it will still play in 4k w/HDR correct (with those options checked allow). Also my husband does play games too, if left on 1080p and a 4k game is inserted will it also still play in 4k/HDR? The way I read on
forums it seems like yes, but not sure. Thanks in advance

    Hi Crystal,

With doing both, we recommend leaving it set to 4k reason being is the games that have it will bet the 4k enhanced version. Which is extremely great graphics. Here are a couple paragraphs from

4k on Xbox one that will help
. Think it would be best to leave set at 1080p and just do what these steps say. In short yes it should display 4k/HDR if set to 1080p.

You don't have to set your console resolution to 4K to play 4K content. You can set your console to another resolution, such as 1080p, and when a game or app requires 4K (and your TV supports the 4K mode it wants), it'll automatically
switch to 4K. This is good if you want to play 1080p content in its native resolution, but also take advantage of the 4K resolution when playing 4K content.

To set your resolution to a lower resolution but switch to 4K when 4K content is played:

    1. Open the guide and go to System > Settings >
Display & sound > Video output and then make sure
TV resolution is set to 720p or 1080p.
    2. Select Advanced video settings and make sure Allow 4K is checked.
    Hope this helps.

    Hello Crystal,

Thanks for coming to the for7ums with your question. The latter 1080p would be better in this case as you watch a lot of movies. If you played mostly games than the 4K setting would be best. Best thing we can recommend is try it out on both and see which
is best for you. Have heard myself that with movies and set in 4K it will flash to change then freeze or go to home screen. Here are a couple links to look over.

1080p movie on a 4K TV, how does it look like?

1080p looks amazing on 4K (was skeptical as well when I upgraded) - I honestly can't tell on a 65" between my 4K UHD BR vs. regular BR - except for UHD BR's that have HDR.

    Xbox One S HDR Bug

    "Hey everyone,

Does the issue persist if you were to change the TV resolution to 1080p? To do this, follow these steps:

    Settings > Display & sound > TV resolution > Select 1080p

As long as 'Allow 4K' is checked, changing the TV resolution to 1080p will not affect native 4K content from displaying in 4K. After the resolution has changed, restart your Xbox One console and see if the issue persists.

    Thanks!"

I tried this, the color degradation of Netflix goes away, however 4K no longer displays as an option for any of the content and it does not play in 4K. Also the issue of cutting out persists through 4k hdr UHD Blueray movies regardless of being set to 1080p,
it does however switch to 4k hdr automatically when playing the discs, but it actually cuts out more than when its set to 4k uhd
