I know from reading Twitter and other social media sites ALOT of people have asked the same.

Most replies to this is what Hun Kim said above, you will still get the benefit, just not the full benefit if your TV hasn't got HDR. I stress though it's only what I've read.

We just bought a new Samsung 4K with HDR but the nice chap told my friend who was also after a new 4K with HDR that a lot of Samsung TVs from 2015/2016 that didn't have HDR received updates to add HDR so for people who after a TV with HDR that already have
a Samsung 4K check whether you TV has already been updated, chances are if it was a 2015/16 model you already have it. Could save yourself a fair bit of money.

    Thanks zfair for above comments!

From reading about people basically are saying what you have, not much out there that takes advantage of it at the moment. Our current TV will be going to a new home and I'm a terrible for wanting new tech, even though I won't really be able to use it properly
lol. I guess it will just be nice to be lets say "future proofed" for when it does arrive.

    @ Hog ..

Mate, I said exactly the same, not upgrading my collection, only in the last week have I bought another 4 Blu-ray films that I already got on DVD, my wife constantly gives me ear ache about it lol

Whenever consoles support 4k gaming though, I can't wait to see what the games look like, I think they can already look pretty special now.

  7. Resolution is overrated I think anyway. As long as the game plays at a stable framerate and doesn't look like nappy poo poo I don't care how many pixels it has.

Totally agree, as long as it's playable and doesn't slow down to a snails pace then that will do me.

Still can't figure out why resolution has all of a sudden made the headlines, of course we always had the fanboys arguing over what version was best but I don't recall countless posts about, this game being 1080, this game isn't?

Unless I knew before hand, you could put a game in front of me and I wouldn't be able to tell you if it's 900, 1080, 30fps, 60 fps and I bet most would be the same. Most of them argue about it because they have read it on the internet.

  9. The thing is it just isn't very encouraging that there's such a large gap resolution wise between the new consoles so early in the game. I agree that it doesn't really matter on a fundamental level, but it's still evidence of the huge gulf between machines.
And that's not really good when the cheaper console is the more powerful one. It's a gap that's only going to widen as the generation progresses.

Ultimately though, it's the games that really matter. Being perfectly honest the most appealing next gen releases to me so far are on the Wii-U, a machine that barely qualifies as 'next-gen'. Monolith Soft's 'X' shows just how much you can do with it. Expansive
environments that put Skyrim to shame. Deep-involving turn-based battle that DEFINITELY outclasses anything Elder Scrolls has done. Flying Robots! I want it.

I personally think the Wii-U is a fantastic piece of kit, quite a few titles I'm looking forward to on it, some I'd take over most titles coming to the XB1/PS4 in 2014.

I'll check the link you posted later, thanks.

100% agree though that at the end of the day it's the games that matter so take your pick on what line up appeals most, at this moment in time and from what games I know about that are coming in 2014, XB1 ticks more of my boxes, obviously things can change
so quickly though so we shall see.

What does concern me a little with the XB1/PS4 even though there's a lot of new games coming, Destiny, Watch Dogs, The Division etc I hope we don't end seeing more sequels ( even though there's nothing wrong with sequels if it's a good game/series ), more
    HD remakes/remastered editions.

Another type of game I'd personally like to see more of on consoles is strategy games, Sim City, Civilisation etc, surely there must be more gamers out there like me that are the same? or is it really a case that 90% of consoles owners just want the next
COD, Battlefield or any game where you a upgrade a weapon in a 1000 different ways?

  11. I'm with you Lofty, when it comes to wanting more strategy games. Not to fussed about 4k tv yet, in 3-4 years when there's more content about maybe I'll upgrade.

Won't it be great when you get a 4K TV?

You'll be able to nag random strangers on the bus that your Television has a higher resolution than real life.

@ Grim, I guess most developers must think that the average console owner isn't interested in these types of games? maybe their right and me and you are in the very small minority.

@ Az, easy for me to say but I would be the last person in the world to brag what resolutions I have lol 4K Tvs, gaming .. ;)

I'd like more strategy games. Looked at a 4K Sony set today, picture was nice, but not enough support for it yet for me to even think about it!!!

Only an idiot will buy a 1st generation 4k tv, only to see a much a better version released for half the price in 10 months. Its a new tech, so it will be limited in features.

I have a Wii U, XBOX ONE, Playstation 4, none of which currently benefit from 4k. Lets face it we could all go out tomorrow and buy a 4k TV. Some of us for cash some of us on finance but none of use would be getting vaue for money.

Unless we're looking to be council estate posh, which is...Never take my kids out to theme parks or on family days, never take my kids out for meal, never go on holiday abroad with my family, buy my food from ALDI, my kids clothes come from Primark, BUT
    I GOT A 4K 70INCH TV lol.
