4k support

the most 4k content I've seen so far is on YouTube of all places. Have to access it via the 4k TV not via xbox but the picture is stunning. Even more reason to get hung up and repetitive about 4k blu ray support...i need it now or else I will have to buy
a new bluray surround as i dont have the discipline to wait.

Please don't be mad / angry at me for the following statement, but I thought that the Xbox One and Playstation 4 couldn't support 4000p resolution?

If the Xbox One and Playstation 4 did support 4000p resolution, wouldn't the frame rate suffer a lot because of it?

I have to say that I thought this but I wanted a new monitor for my PC. And honestly my 4k TV has worked great as a replacement. It also supports 4k60 where most that I have read on where 40k30 max. The benefits for programming and content creation is
amazing, at least to me. And I played the Division on my Xbox One and PC. The 4k is absolutely amazing even with lower settings and the framerate was as good as consoles so no loss. Honestly, the tv did a great job with the Xbox One content and it looked
good enough. I would not say any better than it did on the 1080 screen but not worse either.

I am going to get a copy of the Martian for my wife that supposedly has a 4k UHD + Blu Ray + Digital HD copy. Going to give that a run and see how it compares to the 1080 set in the main room.

 

The Martian is brilliant..... Watched it lastnight, wasn't native 4k but my TV does an excellent upscale.

 

It's also a little pointless investing in 4K as they're starting to introduce 8K tech.

At this rate walking around in real life is going to end up giving people an "low res" headache.

 

I have a 4k tv as well, same LG as someone else mentioned I believe.

Some Blu-Rays and Netflix movies look a bit better but thats really about it. I only got one because it was on sale around Black Friday.

Doesn't really change much as far as gaming, in fact some games in particular ones with lower resolution kind of look worse. Titanfall for example looks terrible haha. But the 1080p games look fantastic.

And if you play 360 games still those look pretty bad too.

 

As someone said, most cable providers aren't using 4k. Comcast is 1080i. It's getting a bit ridiculous if they're working on introducing 8k when 4k isn't even mainstream yet, IMO. What is the resolution of the human eye? Better question might be, WTH are
they going to do when TV resolutions finally meet or exceed the eye's resolution?

You are misunderstanding the "Mastered in 4K" on some Blu-rays, Rcbynature. It doesn't mean the Blu-ray disc itself is in 4K, it means that the master the disc was made from is 4K.

No current Blu-ray can hold the data required to store an 2 or 2+ hour movie in 4K. All Blu-ray discs on the market are no more than 1080p resolution.

Native 4K Blu-ray will require new playback hardware as no player currently on the market is compatible and in fact only prototypes have been shown at trade and electronic shows.

There ARE some streaming options such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, but those are in restricted markets and require a very robust internet connection in all cases.

Updating the Xbox One is never going to happen firmware or otherwise. It simply doesn't have the hardware to support 4K playback.

Before someone comes back with "but the HDMI cable that came with the Xbox One says 4K capable, ANY high-speed HDMI cable is 4K capable at the 4K resolutions used so far. 4K @ 60 frames per second will require more bandwidth going forward though and the
HDMI chipset version has already been revised to HDMI 2.1 to accommodate that throughput requirement.

Is there a discernable difference then in the resolution between a 1080p movie and 4000p movie?

The reason that I am asking this is because I've noticed a huge difference in resolution quality when my friend played her Nintendo Wii on an SDTV (480p) to 720p (she upgraded LOL). Just to be clear, the HDTV was 1080p, but the Nintendo Wii can only output
720p.

Is the difference between 1080p and 4000p as noticeable as I just mentioned in my previous statement?

Lei. It's one of those things that you do notice but think... It's not that big of a difference, then you go back to 1080p and really notice 4k was a lot better.

Also, Lei as the owner of a 4K TV the resolution it puts out is only 2160p not 4000 At least that is what it says when I watch 4k stuff on Netflix.

 

2160p is the vertical pixels, the horizontal pixels are 3840. I guess they round it off to 4k.
