4K Pass-through on Xbox One S?

It was updated to support HDMI 2.0 in July ready for the Ultra HD launch last weekend. The launch specs are now out of date in that regard.

Xbox One X won't play 4K from Sky Q through input and output HDMI Connection

The HDMI IN on the XBOX ONE / ONE S / ONE X are all just 1080P there is no 4K pass through on those consoles.

The Xbox One S Supports 4K Bluray and 4K screen resolution - not 4K gaming

The Xbox One X Supports 4K Gaming, 4K Bluray and 4K screen resolution

- Game developer has to make the game 4K

- 4K pass-through is a hardware feature that does not exist within the console. You'd be better

off running your 4k Sky Q into the TV directly. (the xbox is doing what it's designed to do)

 

Xbox One X 4K pass thru?

When you say 4K pass through, are you talking about a 4K source sending the TV signal to the Xbox and then to the TV? Or sending the Xbox1 X 4K signal to pass through a 4K receiver and then to the 4K TV?

 

Thanks a bunch for clarifying, guys! I figured that was the case, but didn't want to assume.

Once I hear back from the people looking into this, I will post back in here to update you guys. Thanks for your patience while they dig into it!

Can I chime into this too please and confirm I have the same problem. I'm current working with "Irish" on your support team, but we are not making much headway. I too contact your support team prior to purchasing an Xbox One S and was assured this would
work. I am not happy to say the least as being able to unify my sources to a single HDMI feed to my TV was one of the main reasons I purchasing this One S.

I too have SkyQ and have just recently purchased the Panasonic TX-58DX750b LED television, I also have the Xbox One S and after reading through the complaints of no pass through I'm not bothering with it until fixed

It may be that my TV will work, but I just can't be bothered shifting the TV cabinet to change wires until an update has been released

I know your waiting on a update but have Microsoft at least acknowledged there is a problem? Should the Xbox one s be able to accept a 4K signal via the HDMI in like we were told? Has anyone successfully been able to do this at Microsoft?

 

Well according to a recent report it would seem Microsoft have confirmed it won't work..

We questioned Xbox about this and received the following statement: "Xbox One S does not currently support 4K pass-through via HDMI-in. We will continue to explore making the changes needed for the hardware to support pass-through as 4K broadcasts become
more widespread.

It would seem Xbox support have been either mis informed or just plain and simply lying!!

 

Can confirm this is the case here, too. Doesn't work with Sky Q or any 4K-output device.

Well that is most troubling. I made this purchase based on a Microsoft staff member assuring me that this would work. I've now also sold my original Xbox One. Not happy. Not a total waste of money as I now have 4K Netflix and Ultra HD Blu-Rays available
to me, but I am miffed. Guess I'll just have to live without Sky Q being in 4K for the time being as my TV only has a single input that supports both 4K
and HDR, and I really don't want to plugging and unplugging all the time, or dealing with splitters. I guess I'm just not a fan of being lied to.

Also, complete off topic, but can I just say the gamercard over on the left not showing anything to do with Xbox One is really really poor. If you're not going to bother updating it to support your "new" 2 year old console, then why bother even showing it
on the forums at all? [tag:useless]

It's a gamercard I couldn't care if it had a picture of a ps4 on it, I probably done it years ago and don't really care what's on it. #Getalife

Nocturnal, those reports are correct. Unfortunately the Xbox One S hardware is not designed to pass native 4K content through the HDMI in input. If you would like to use the OneGuide we suggest using the 1080P content from the set top box and then allow
the Xbox One S or your TV to upscale the video to 4K. This should work to receive at least 4K video without running into the error.

Give that a shot, and let us know your results!

 

So what's the situalion in regards to the mis selling of products? A few people including myself were told prior to purchasing the Xbox one s that it would be possible to passthrough native 4K content via the HDMI in.I would be sending my Xbox one s back
if I hadn't already sold my original Xbox one as its a major feature for myself.
