4k on normal blu ray it doesn't upscale

Games and Ultra blu ray is in 4k but normal blu rays are displayed in 1080p . all options are in 4k

Important questions few have asked about XBOX ONE!

Re: X1 and PS4 both being "4k compatible," that does not mean they are 4k Blu-ray compatible, it just means that they can output 4k. So, in other words, there is still the possibility the X1 might only be able to upscale 1080p Blu-ray to 4K, and might not
be able to actually decode and output native 4K Blu-ray.

X1 can output in 4K in other scenarios, though.

Does the Xbox One S actually upscale regular Blu-Rays?

Hey everyone,

I'm a bit confused by this and I've heard conflicting reports.

But, does the X1 S actually upscale regular Blu-Ray films to 4K?

When I play games on my S, the tv lists the ouput as "4K." so, I'm assuming that means the games are being upscaled to 4K.

However, when I play a regular Blu-Ray film on my S, the tv lists the output as "1080p." so, I'm assuming that means regular Blu-Rays are NOT being upscaled to 4K?

I've seen other people online comment that the S no long actually upscales regular Blu-Rays to 4K. It used to but not anymore.

the official support page for the S says that it is supposed to upscale "everything" if the console is set to "4K UHD" in the settings.

I have my console on that 4K UHD setting, but it doesn't seem to be upscaling my regular Blu-Rays.

Does anyone else have this issue? I'd appreciate your help and comments.

I have noticed that since either the latest system update (or possibly Blu-ray app update), normal Blu-ray movies don't upscale to 4k anymore. They only stay at 1080p. I've tried everything, and it only stays at 1080p.

As soon as I go back to the dashboard or play games, it'll revert back to 4k. But as soon as I put a Blu-ray in, back to 1080p. And it was working beautifully before the last system update (the one that released on the 5th August), and Blu-rays all upscaled
to 4k.

This needs looking in to MS.

A lot of people are complaining about this... but MS doesn't seem to want to acknowledge it. It seems that the minor update that occurred on the 5th messed up the 4k Blu-ray functionality of the XB1 S.

I've also noticed that normal Blu-rays no longer upscale to 4k either, they stay at 1080p.

Everyone needs to speak up about this and complain because nothing is getting done about it. I've been in contact with @XboxSupport on Twitter... I urge you do the same.

The update *** everything up, my 4K of oblivion I just bought doesn't work and my blu Rays no longer upscale to 4K. Sure glad I spent 400 on this piece of crap machine.

yeah. it's frustrating. and on top of this issue, I just learned that the S really doesn't upscale regular Blu-Rays to 4K, despite what MS says on their official support page - they say everything is supposed to upscale to 4K when you set the S output
to 4K UHD. But apparently, that's not the case with regular Blu-Rays.

so, yeah, 2 issues that are frustrating and disappointing.

It's always comes back to Monster High with you doesn't it?

If you don't have a 4K TV it will just look like a regular Blu-ray on a 1080p TV. Maybe a little better due you upscaling.

The difference will come when you have 4K Blu-ray's.

But still a lot better than regular DVD's
