    4k Mp4 Files Playback Fail


    I can't get any of my 4k mp4 videos whether downloaded or that I've recorded myself in h.264 to play on the xbox one x. I figured it would be able to playback 4k video files.

    Anyone have any luck? I've tried the media player app and using the movies & tv app using shared network using DLNA shares.

    Do your files play on a pc? In that case it probably has to do with the encoding of your file. You can re-encode rhem, but that will always lead to some quality loss. Take a look at this article:

    support.xbox.com/.../watch-dvds-movies

    It lists the supported formats (with bit rates etc) that the xbox supports. If you search online, I'm sure you can find some free alternatives to re-encode them if you want to. Good luck4k Mp4 Files Playback Fail :)

    Good evening,

    I occasionally play back .Mp4 files from an external hdd through my xbox. Whilst i have no issues with doing this, i do have one small mystery.

    Out of say, 6 files i have on the drive, two have the "No Entry" symbol next to them, instead of a movie camera, and they will not play.

    What makes these files different? Can i resolve this. The other 4 work perfectly. Just these two. As far as i can tell they are saved in exactly the same way.

    Can't watch videos on xbox (streaming from mac) although I have updated the xbox system

    It may be that some of your files are unsupported, this page lists the specs of supported files:

    support.xbox.com/.../audio-video-playback     You will note that it plays MP4s just fine, it just depends on the MP4.

    Does the xbox play mp4 and avi files.

    Though MP4 is claimed to be supported by Xbox 360, sometimes we still run in to difficulties to play MP4 on Xbox 360.

    You may try to change the extension name from .mp4 to .wmv but I cannot ensure this action can solve the MP4 playback problem.

    If you are still in trouble, you can convert your MP4 files to WMV or MP4.
