    4k Blu ray playback

My tv is 4k but does not support hdr. However my one x still displays games and everything at 4k, but when I play a UHD blu ray it will only playback at 1080p. What am I missing? I hope the Xs blu ray app is smart enough to play at 4k with hdr disabled.

    • Make sure the console is automatically detecting your TV. Press the Xbox button to open the guide and choose Settings > All settings. Select Display & sound > Advanced video settings and choose Auto-detect.
4K isn't available when HDMI or DVI is manually selected.
    • Make sure your HDMI cable is plugged into the correct port on your TV. Some 4K TVs only support their full set of 4K features on specific HDMI ports. Refer to your TV manual to see if there are special 4K HDMI ports, or try the different ports on your TV.
    • Check your TV's settings menu. Your TV might have a special mode that turns on 4K or HDR. Refer to your TV manual to see if you must change your TV's settings. Again, your TV manufacturer may use different names for HDR—see the previous list.
    • If some content won't play, make sure your TV supports HDCP 2.2 and that it's turned on in your TV's settings.
    • Make sure you're using the HDMI cable that was included with the Xbox One S.
    • Try a different HDMI cable. Your cables must be HDMI High Speed or HDMI Premium certified.
    • If a device is plugged in between your TV and console, remove it and plug your TV directly into your console with the HDMI cable that was included with the Xbox One S. Some AV receivers or other video equipment may interfere with the data passed between
console and TV—your device must support the same capabilities as your TV, either directly or as pass-through. Also, you must use HDMI High Speed or HDMI Premium certified cables between both the console and receiver, and the receiver and TV.
    • Make sure your TV and AV receiver firmware are up to date. Many newer TVs and devices can take updates—if you find that it doesn't support some 4K or HDR features, a TV or receiver firmware update may resolve the problem. Check your TV or device manual
to see how to update the firmware.

Does the Series X console automatically upscale 1080p movie discs to 4k?

No, it doesn't do that. The movie will show in 1080p. Only 4K movies will show in 4K.

Configure 4k smart tv to optimize xbox one output

If I'm not mistaking a Xbox One will only go up to 720p and Xbox One S and X will do 4k. I'm not sure how to configure your TV, however yourself can go to the picture settings on your TV and change them to your likings.
    No, that's not correct.

Original Xbox One does 1080P. The Xbox One S can do 4K, but only for Streamed 4K video content and 4K UHD movie discs. You can upscale games to 4K or play them at 1080P without up-scaling on the One S.

The original console's maximum resolution is Full HD, 1080P.

The One X can do the same, with the exception of Enhanced games which will can run in 4K if they have been designed to do so.

A 1080P game image on a 4K TV will have to be scaled down by the display. This may well produce a more pixelated image. You will need to change your display settings on the TV to try to compensate for this.

Game mode adjusts the display settings to remove post processing effects that apply to broadcast media or movies, thus improving how fast images are displayed. It does not affect the sharpness of how graphics are shown on the display.

Xbox One S vs. Xbox One X vs. native 4K Budge Blu-Ray (U875) for Playing 4k Blu Ray Films

Upscaling basically stretches the picture to match the resolution of your display (e.g. 1080p game/movie will be stretched to fit your 4K display resolution). The main difference between the S and X is the hardware, which is mainly utilized for games. The
S will render games up to 1080p and upscale to 4K. The X is able to render and output at native 4K (only if the game is "Xbox One X Enhanced").

Both the Xbox One S and Xbox One X play 4K movies the same. They can both output movies in
native 4K, as well as optionally support HDR (HDR10 profile). You just have to be sure that you are streaming in 4K or use a UHD Blu-Ray, and your TV set supports it.

Go for the Xbox One S if you want a 4K movie player with the option to game. If its movies you only care about, and you want to spend the
least amount of money, then go for the LG player you mentioned.

    Always 60hz on 120HZ TV?

I think you're confusing a 120 Hz panel, with 120hz display and input ability. The hardware inside the display Is the determining factor of what the television supports. It was mostly implemented to allow for 24 Hz display of movies

There are no 1080P televisions that do 120 Hz display, it's a feature you only find on high end 4K televisions
