4k issues

My Samsung U28E590D monitor (UHD, Display 28", 3840 x 2160, 60 Hz, 1 ms) is actually working both with HDMI or with DP cable on max res with my Win 10 pc.

I had bought this screen for my new Xbox One S, but I keep being unable to enable 2160p: my console autotracks max 1080p 60 Hz, that is effectively the resolution my screen goes to when I turn it on console's source.

So the result is that my console doesn't allow me to activate 4k res for games nor for blu ray movies.

I have read the console's on-screen guide and followed any possible step to fix the issue, but I have no progress; the monitor doesn't really let me choose a resolution, it just picks the "proper" (not in this case) one.

Am I doing something wrong?

If you please tell me it isn't so, I would like to know why a 4k screen who CAN work 4k cannot with Xbox One S.

Do I need to buy a HDMI->DP cable converter?

Is there a restricted list of monitors and televisions I have not found anywhere to use UHD with it?

In this last option, could you please link me this list so that I can choose a proper model, at least for blu ray movies?

Standard Blu-ray not being up-converted

Hey, drwatson618! Sorry to see any confusion surrounding this, however some items that are not 4K rated will not display in 4K. This is why the console needs to be set to Auto in the settings; not everything supports 4K just yet, and the console wants to
adjust for those items.

Things are still in a state of change in the land of 4K UHD and haven't quite settled out yet. Part of this may have to do with DRM (Digital Rights Management) and trying to lock things down when it comes to all this 4K digital plumbing. Not only is it the
hardware, like needing to use HDMI 2.X cable. But, it's also the software. Does the firmware in the monitor/TV support the 4K UHD (HDCP 2.2)
content coming from the attached device ("Checking your TV's 4K and HDR capabilities on Xbox One S")? Yes, the Samsung U28E590D
can do 4K UHD, but does it support HDR10? HDR10 support seems to be a very important threshold when comes to connecting the Xbox One S to 4K UHD TVs. The current crop of 4K UHD monitors seems to be more directed to PC gamers. While, the Xbox One S is geared
more toward lager format TVs. I'm sure that this is not the only list, but Windows Central has what it calls "Best 4K HDR TVs For Xbox One S".
