4k dashboard but 4k disk is 1080p

Discus and support 4k dashboard but 4k disk is 1080p in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; My tv shows 4k resolution on the dashboard but when playing planet earth 2 (4k disk) it switches to 1080p.     4k dashboard but 4k disk is 1080p


    My tv shows 4k resolution on the dashboard but when playing planet earth 2 (4k disk) it switches to 1080p.

    All the checkmarks are checked on the 4k setup on the xbox.

    Any ideas?

    The only thing is that I'm in the alpha program for insiders. I doubt this is the problem though... but maybe.

    UHD Bluray won't play in 4K on 4K non HDR TV

    So I have a Samsung 4K non HDR TV, and my xbox one s will show up in 4K when I am on the dashboard, but when I install a 4K HDR bluray disk it only displays in 1080p. Any reason for this? Do the UHD bluray disks not play in just 4K if its also not HDR?

    Hi

    I have an XBOX ONE S. It's able to upscale games to 4k resolution and I confirmed that by hitting "info " button on my tv remote . It's also showing 4k resolution in XBOX dashboard .

    As soon as I insert a UHD or 1080p disk in , It would switch to 1080p resolution . I have tried several different disks and I'm using the HDMI cable that came with the XBOX .

    "XBOX 4k DETAILS" shows that my tv supports all features except HDR .

    I have switched cable between all 4 hdmi ports on my TV,no change

    Both TV and xbox is updated to the latest firmware

    NETFLIX/AMAZON shows 4k just fine.

    I guess that's something wrong with XBOX

    After a hard reset to factory defaults, the TV is recognised as 4K and HDR compatible (this is new). Now, games can switch from 1080p to 4K. However, the Xbox dashboard is unable to work at 4K.

    Xbox One S is not really a 4K console,

    4K Media Content - Yes

    You can play 4K Blu-ray DVD's or Streaming services like Netflix in 4K just fine if your paying the the 4K subscription options,

    4K Gaming Content - No

    As for games, it only plays games at 1080p but it is upscaled to 4K, other wise a 1080p image without upscaling to 4K, will look much worst on a 4K screen than what it would do, if it was only displayed on a 1080p screen,

    A 1080p image upscaled on a 4K screen does look a little better than a 1080p image on a 1080p screen, but it still a 1080p image made to fit a 4K resolution screen, which is what the Xbox One S does

    Xbox One X is a 4K console,

    4K Media - Yes

    4K Gaming - Yes

    The issues is not the TV, it's the Xbox One S not being an Xbox One X.

    Saying "what's the point" or that a 4k interface is unnecessary (IgotTFondabrain) just because there are no current 4k games is like saying 1080p is unnecessary for the Xbox 360. There weren't more than a handful of games that ran natively over 720p on
    the x360, and most were not mainstream. A 4k dashboard would be nice, and 4k scaling on the console would be far superior to the scalers in the current 4k TV's which are simply not that great. Plus 4k web and app support, as well as having both 1080p Skype
    windows in PBP for 4k would be far better. 4k would make photo viewing better, and Snap windows much more defined. I guess the question still remains, why was it so heavily touted pre-launch, but there is no at launch support... strange.

    4k 60 fps

    It is 4k upscaled but not native 4k. The main difference being that the Xbox One S takes a 1080p(or lower) image and upscales the resolution to appear in 4k while the Xbox One X is capable of playing some games directly in 4k resolution. Upscaled 4k is has
    a sharper image that 1080p but is still a little less detailed that native 4k.

    So yes, while you are seeing a 4k image when possible, it is not true 4k.
