4K Blu-Ray discs not playing via app

I recently purchased an xbox one x, the one that can apparently play 4k native and is 40% more powerful than any other console.

Purchased 2 x UHD 4k movies to play on my xbox one x to watch on my 4k oled tv.

Downloaded and installed Blu-ray app off microsoft store, to play my 4k movies on my xbox one x so I can see all the 4k glory on my 4k tv. But no, apparently my new shiny powerful xbox one x console cant because of 0x91d70000
error, seriously?

Is there a fix?

Really! That is a bit odd. VLC should play most videos. VLC doesn't play Blu-ray or 4k discs, as that's what the Blu-ray app is for.

Speaking of the BD app, it's played all my 10 4k disc just fine, but only most of my BD discs work. The 2nd and 3rd discs of my Planet of the Apes Primal collection (8 discs) don't work. No errors or anything, just stays at a black screen after the app starts.

 

Xbox One S 4K upscaling for DVDs and standard Blu-rays

I would like to purchase a 4K Blu-ray Player for my new 4K TV, and the Xbox One S seems like a good choice since it can be used for gaming and other entertainment as well. However, I would also like to play non-4K discs (480p, 720p, 1080p) on the Xbox One
S using a 4K TV.

So, my question is:

Does the Blu-ray App on Xbox One S upscale SD (480p DVDs) and HD (720p & 1080p standard Blu-rays) discs to 4K?

Sorry to hear about your issue alb4. This reddit post has a quick “trick” you can try. While it’s not a long term solution (movies should just play) hopefully it works.

Personally I would swap the system out with another if it’s still within the return period.

 

Yes, just had a friend try out the 4k on his xbox and they work fine

 

I appreciate the tip about the workaround but you would expect playing or reading a disc would work as advertised. So have called up the retailer and will be replacing the unit as per your advice. Hopefully i wont have the same experience, right now i
dont think highly of the xbox.

 

Well if it makes you feel any better, I watch 4k UHD disk all the time with zero issues, so it does sounds like a defective drive.

 

Im sincerely happy for you unfortunately for me i just replaced with a new xbox one x and received the same errors so will be asking for a complete refund and opt for astand alone 4k player
