4K 30bits and 36 bits combined with full-rgb output broken.

On the Xbox One S when selecting 4K output with either 30bits or 36bits and the pc RGB colour space (full-RGB 0-255). It'll actually output at the standard colour space (limited-RGB 16-235), despite the menu claiming 4K+30bits+pc RGB.

When using 4K with 24bits colour per pixel and pc-RGB it'll output at those settings.

Expected:

4K + 24bits + pc RGB: 0-255

4K + 30 bits + pc RGB: 0-255

4K + 36bits + pc RGB: 0-255

Reality:

4K + 24bits + pc RGB: 0-255

4K + 30 bits + pc RGB: 16-235

4K + 36bits + pc RGB: 16-235

All of you are correct in describing how RGB Full and RGB Limited are SUPPOSED to work.

On every device I own EXCEPT the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, the options for RGB Limited and RGB Full DO work this way.

On the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, however, the RGB Limited option outputs RGB Full, and the RGB Full option is completely broken.

AVwriter is correct, you should be using RGB Limited, not full..

I have a panasonic plasma aswell and have no issues.. Running 36 bit, in RGB limited and TV calibrated in THX mode and have zero issues..

 

Obviously this is another reason buying an Xbox One S is foolish.

 

To add salt to the wound. The gamma curve is still skewed on the Xbox One S. I wonder how MS wants to do HDR with an incorrect gamma curve.

 

Gamma curve skewed? This is the final straw M.S.! Will now sell my basement full of X Box One consoles and "invest" in something else...

@ A Blue Illusion, my accountant tells me investing in 8-track decks may be more financially sound. Have any of those?

I have a question for the OP.

How does it look?

 

It looks washed out. Similar to watching a display that has a RGB range mismatch with the source.

 

Can you change settings on your tv? Sometimes if the contrast is up too high it can make things look washed out. Maybe you had them set perfectly before, but now they need to be adjusted because of the new console?

 

Okay follow up question then. When compared to the Xbox One (original), how does it look?

Not that it really matters, I don't plan on buying an Xbox One S and I'll just wait for the Scorpio.

 

My TV is properly calibrated,
I've got a LG OLED 55EG920V.

Every video output settings displays as you'd expect it to. Only the ones I listed in the OP (4K+30/36bits + pc-RGB) output incorrectly. 1080p for example with 30 or 36 bits and pc-RGB output as you'd expect and the exact same as the original Xbox One model.

What exactly do you mean? The original XB1 doesn't support 4K and the XB1 S only outputs incorrectly at specific 4K setting.
