  1. 4gb HDD failed. What do?

I have a 4gb Xbox s. Turned it on, no profiles available, and it showed the hard drive as "unformatted". Reset power, problem still present. Formatted storage space, cleared system cache. Tried downloading profile, "error: unable to download profiles at
    this time".

I attached an external HDD, was able to download my profile to that location. Unable to move/copy items to 4gb internal storage. Trying to play Call of Duty Ghosts using my profile loaded onto the external HDD, I'm still required to download a compatibility
update. This update is automatically saved to internal storage, as I'm unable to select destination. This download immediately becomes " missing or corrupt ".

I've determined by reading on this issue that either my 4gb internal storage, or its controller, has failed.

How do I work around this issue? If I purchase a 250gb HDD to plug into the Xbox, will I be able to use that instead of the internal storage? Or will system updates etc still be downloaded to the 4gb internal storage?

I do not trust sending my console to Microsoft, as I've seen too many accounts of units being gone for months or more with no clarification or taking available from customer care.

What other options do I have ?

    :)

My Internal hard drive is GONE!

If this is the 250GB HDD, try reseating it. If that doesn't help, the drive's probably dead.

If this is the 4GB console, not much you can do. The internal 4GB USB MU has failed.

Forced to buy hard drive to play Battlefield 4

Adding to the 4GB console advertised as an HDD: This is 100% false. I purchased my 4GB Xbox 360 S in 2012. It said "4GB" on the box. Nowhere did it list a hard drive or state the 4GB was an HDD.

Well you can try downloading your profile and selecting your HDD so that the console will download and install the update on the HDD...

But the best resolution for this case is to send the console in for repair since in the long run, the defective memory unit may cause several problems with your console like freezing and lagging...

Sending the console for repair will only take 2-3 weeks for you to get it back PLUS you get a bonus 1 month free XBOX LIVE GOLD subscription...
