I had the same problem, unplugged router...no change. Unplugged xbox, walked away for awhile plugged it back in and it worked. Not sure if this will help anyone else but good luck.

    Hey everyone!

I am truly sorry to hear about the update issues, I can definitely understand how frustrating that could be. In order to make sure that we can provide the proper support, I went ahead and moved your posts. Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to see if we
    can get this issue sorted.

Please give the following steps a try:

If you are still unable to download the update, copy the update from your computer to a USB flash drive by trying the following steps:

Note The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system. For information about how to format a USB flash drive, see the “Format a USB flash drive” section of Xbox 360 USB flash
    drive support
    .

    1. Plug your USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.
    2. Download the update file.
    3. Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.
    4. Unzip the file. If you are using Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
    5. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory of your USB flash drive (for example, E:\). Do not copy the contents to another folder on the USB flash drive (for example, E:\Files).
    6. Unplug the USB flash drive from your computer.
    7. Plug the flash drive into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console.
    8. Restart the console.
    9. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the new console software.

Give the suggested steps a try and let us know how it goes!

  7. Hey there brawnhabs!

Sorry to hear that the issue is continuing to occur. I recommend trying a few additional steps to see if we can get this issue sorted:

    • First, power off your Xbox 360 console.
    • Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord of your console, router, modem or gateway.
    • If you’re using an Xbox 360 Memory Unit or a USB flash drive instead of a hard drive, remove and reinsert the memory unit or USB flash drive.
    • If you have a hard drive, try removing and adding the hard drive again.
    • Plug in your console, router, modem or gateway.
    • Power on your console.
    • Try the update again.
Try the steps above and let us know how it goes. Thanks!

I followed the steps, power cycling the internet/xbox/replugging in the external HD I use for xbox memory and which holds the update. Same error message.

First, power off your Xbox 360 console.

Once your console is powered off, unplug the power cord of your console

    Throw console out of window

    Walk away victorious

So after an hour of trying, finally got lucky with the USB update, but now a whole new problem seems to have occurred, none of my games will update. nice to know that my console can make it onlone, but that's it. Every game that needs to update to get on
    live, returns with error 417F-0000-0080-0300-8007-0570

Such nice fixes you guys do. Ever thought of actually debugging code before pushing it?

If I pay for stuff I expect it to work!!!

  15. Hey there catdog2005 and stampy lam face!

Sorry to hear that the issue is continuing to occur, can you please let us know the specific error code that you are experiencing? Let's try some additional troubleshooting steps to see if we can get this issue sorted:

Please give the following steps a try:

If you are still unable to download the update, copy the update from your computer to a USB flash drive by trying the following steps:

Note The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system. For information about how to format a USB flash drive, see the “Format a USB flash drive” section of Xbox 360 USB flash drive
    support
    .

    7. Unplug your console from your router, modem or gateway.
    8. Plug the flash drive into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console.
    9. Restart the console.
    10. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the new console software.
If you are unable to install the update from a USB flash drive, burn it to a disc by trying the following steps:

You can update your Xbox 360 console software by downloading the update to your computer from Xbox.com, burning the update to a CD or DVD, and then installing the update on your console. Here's how:

    1. On your computer, download the update file.
    2. Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.
    3. Unzip the file. If you are using Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
      • If you are using Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
      • If you are using an earlier version of Windows, you need to use a special software program to unzip the file (for example, WinZip).
    4. Insert a blank, writeable CD or DVD into your computer.
    5. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory on your CD or DVD, and choose to write (burn) the files to the disc.
    6. Once the files have been burned to disc, remove that disc from your computer and insert it into the disc drive on your Xbox 360 console.
    7. Restart the console.
    8. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the new console software.
You can also check out our Xbox 360 software update troubleshooting page for some additional helpful steps. Give the suggested sets a try and let us know the results!
