360E live update failure using wireless/USB/and CD

I have an Xbox 360 E Model 1538. the 4g internal drive crapped out a couple years ago showing unformatted so I upgraded to a 500 gb drive and haven't had any problems since until now.

A couple weeks ago I got an alert for the update and it failed, but I hadn't had time to troubleshoot until today. I was on xbox live with no problems before this update but it wont let me sign on now until the update is installed. When I try to download
the update I get update failed status code:

4451-445E-1380-267F-C000-0185

Which according to support means:

• Cannot process update.
• Status code: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-C000-0185

So I download the latest USB update and extract it and copy it to the root directory plug it into my system. The xbox does not even see the USB drive it just tries to download the update again. It is fat32 and I tried three different ports.

So I download the latest CD update and burn it onto a brand new and clean disc. I know it sees the update on the disn because it tries to apply it instead of downloading it, but as its extracting I get "cant install the update the disc is unreadable" 4451-445E-1900-267F-C000-0185.
I tried a second disc just to be sure. same outcome.

I have also cleared the system cache, tried reinstalling gamer profile but can't log on with out update, reinserted the drive.....

Anything else I can try? thanks for any assistance.

Where can I donwload Xbox Wireless Adapter (old b/g) Driver? I lost the CD.......

Just download the latest update on your computer:
Xbox
360 Software Updates then using a USB flash drive or CD, install it and it should have all the latest drivers for the wireless adapter.

 

Can't connect to wireless network/router

I would go wired to get the update if I were you. Or download it to CD or a USB pen stick, once you have the update go back to using wireless

 

Hi, could you check how much free space there is on the storage device you have, if there is less than 250Mb or so then clear up some space.

If the storage device shows as unformatted then you may have a more serious issue but try formatting that device and then updating.

This may also be worth a shot, highlight the storage device in the storage section of the settings on the Xbox, press the following buttons in sequence on the controller, LB RB X LB RB X, select yes on the next screen and the Xbox will restart, then try
updating again.
