[360 / XBL] Password max char length bug

Hi guys,

Praying to god a developer sees this as there appears to be no method to file a ticket for bug reports!

XBL login currently doesn't work on Xbox 360 if you have a Microsoft account password that is above 16 characters. On every other service I use with the MS account (there are plenty), XBL on the 360 is the only one which is inaccessible, as the dashboard
seems to have a hardcoded max char length on the password input field box.

One might say - "just make your password shorter, duh" - but ignoring the fact one can only change their password so many times before simply forgetting what it is from the frequency of changes, on a level of principle, shouldn't one of the largest tech
companies in the world make a point of fixing bugs instead of recommending just making a password less secure as a workaround?

Microsoft account password length discrepancy?

What's going on with the password length discrepancy between the Xbox One and the Xbox 360? I somewhat recently updated my password for my Microsoft account to one that's 21 char long, and had no problem with my email, computer, Xbox One, etc, but then noticed
the Xbox 360 games I played on BackCompat no longer connect.

Isn't this something that should be addressed (and not simply by limiting passwords to 16 char)? I shouldn't have to choose between security and online multiplayer.

Hi NuAngel,

I believe this is a known issue. However, you may want to additionally use two-step authentication on your account, particularly enabling an authenticator app, which you can do here:

Sign in to your Microsoft account

The Xbox One will take the 20-character password and then ask for the code, while for the Xbox 360 you will need to generate an App Password (same link as above) which gives you a random, lengthy password to enter.

This allows you to keep the very long password on your account and also lets you sign in on Xbox 360.
